We are currently seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our rapidly growing company in Burlington, Ontario.
Key Purpose:
The Project Accountant is accountable for monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project billings are issued to customers and payments are collected.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform an effective pivot role between the Project Management department and Finance department
- In charge of project financial life cycle from properly setting up project to closing out project in the ERP system
- Calculate and analyse project progress billing for accuracy, assemble monthly owner billing package, and ensure invoice is sent to customers by deadline
- Review project costs and ensure all costs booked for projects are accurate
- Perform project cash flow forecast and ensure healthy cash flow for all assigned projects through proactively managing billing and AR collections
- Assist PM to proactively assess project financial risks and promptly escalate issues to next level management, ensure all project and contract related compliance in place
- Perform month-end tasks such as calculating revenue recognition, WIP adjustment, and validate project forecast
- Perform monthly project variance analysis
- Coordinate with Corporate AP for weekly cheque run
- Assist with monthly reporting as well as ad-hoc reports
Key Knowledge and Skills:
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with construction software considered an asset
- Outstanding teamwork skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 2+ years of project accounting experience in the construction industry
- University Degree or College Diploma, Major in Accounting
