The Position
We strive everyday to provide a clean, sanitized, and healthy environment for our Guests, Staff and Volunteers. The Custodial position plays a key role by adhering to a specified cleaning plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and sanitize areas according to assigned schedules using appropriate cleaning and sanitation methods and procedures, with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrate familiarity with common institutional cleaners and disinfecting agents and safe handling of same
- Ability to perform physical requirements, including ability to lift 50lbs.
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize space in accordance with a documented cleaning plan that will include at a minimum, a cleaning schedule with some form of documentation, noting when the cleaning/disinfecting was completed for all items/areas on the cleaning plan.
- Care for equipment, supplies, and work areas through the following:
- Maintain cleanliness and safe storage of equipment.
- Report defective and damaged equipment and furnishings.
- Keep work area in an orderly, safe, and clean condition.
- Keep inventory in order on individual carts.
- Replenish supplies throughout the building.
- Understand the use and application of cleaning chemicals.
- Fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position with a pleasant demeanour maintaining clear and consistent boundaries with Guests.
- General cleaning duties as defined by the Maintenance Supervisor.
- Flexibility in working hours – MUST be able to work weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holiday coverage when required.
- Any other duties as specified by the Maintenance Supervisor or Director.
- Responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of services to Mercy House Guests. Applications of organizational policies and processes pertaining to Guest and workplace safety is expected.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications and Skills:
- WHMIS certification is considered an asset.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of hazardous product handling, infection control, cleaning protocols, housekeeping operations, and proper equipment usage.
- Ability to complete tasks efficiently and independently, with minimal supervision.
- Proven to be trustworthy, reliable, and highly organized, with excellent prioritization and multitasking skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, capable of working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- All applicants must provide a current Criminal Record Screening Certificate and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
The Details
This is a full-time permanent position. The salary range is a TGP 1 Level 1, Step 1-6, $39,535.20 – 42,656.40. The Gathering Place – Mercy House offers health and dental, long term disability insurance, life insurance, matching RRSP plan, sick leave, and three week's paid vacation.
