Nature of PositionThe Residential Outreach Worker (ROW) strives to create a warm and comfortable home atmosphere along with a personal relationship that fosters a sense of belonging and empowerment for individuals both at home and in the community.The ROW facilitates growth and development by providing opportunities for increasing independence and community involvement. The ROW transports our individuals using ipr vehicles (Class 4 required). When an ipr vehicle is not available, the ROW will utilize the HandyDART, Zunga Bus, or public transportation.When not escorting individuals outside the home, the ROW is required to provide all of the same services as the RSW, which include personal care to the individuals, perform household duties (ie. meal prep, indoor and outdoor chores, laundry, etc.) medication administration and transportation to work, social events or appointments as required and when needed, regardless of day or night shifts.The ROW is a dedicated and knowledgeable member of a comprehensive organization wide support team. As such, when deemed qualified with appropriate skills and abilities, they may provide services to individuals in related programs, when required. The ROW participates in ensuring that the strategic goals and CARF accreditation of the agency are met. Required Abilities- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to use personal computer and appropriate software effectively to complete the positions work on time. This includes at a minimum file management, e-mail, internet search, and word processing skills.
- Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of the community living sector.
- Ability to assist in emergencies.
- Ability to teach skills and work effectively with others.
- Ability to involve individuals in personal and household routines as well as work, recreation, and other community activities, where able
- Good organization, time, and general management skills.
- Ability to participate as a member of a residential team including flexibility.
- Ability to assess and interpret human behavior accurately and respond supportively.
- Ability to recognize emerging health issues and respond appropriately.
- Community Support Worker or Home Support/Care Attendant Certificate
- Consideration given to candidates with prior supportive home care experience
- Valid Class 4 driver's license
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be consideredRequirements for Ongoing Employment
- Criminal Record Check (renewable every 5 years)
- TB Test
- A valid WCB-approved First Aid Certificate (OFA Level 1)
- Valid Class 4 driver's license
