Are you an experienced CG Senior FX Artist looking for your next opportunity? Our Vancouver studio is looking to fill a Senior Houdini FX Artist role on an upcoming CG series.

Atomic Cartoons Inc. is an award-winning animation studio with locations in Vancouver's Mt. Pleasant Animation District, Ottawa's Hintonburg neighborhood and Los Angeles. Since its inception 25 years ago, Atomic Cartoons has created and produced numerous 2D and CG animation productions including Princess Power and Last Kids on Earth. Atomic is well known for its artist-friendly culture and flexible work environment. We are always looking for artists of all levels to join our team!

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Design and animate effects utilizing Houdini for smoke, clouds, fire, lava, and water that meet the technical and aesthetic standards of the project.
  • Take direction from FX Supervisor and FX TDs.
  • Work with DFX supervisor, lighting team and CG Supervisor to determine the best possible technical and creative approaches to be able to work smoothly within the pipeline.
  • Produce look tests based on provided concepts.
  • Work within show structure and production deadlines to complete tasks.
  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production management.
  • Work closely with FX Supervisors on each episode to achieve deliverables, while creating workflow efficiency.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • 3+ years of industry experience working in a studio environment; working on an episodic show.
  • Strong Knowledge of Houdini Dynamic tools.
  • A good understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena.
  • Self-driven, a good communicator, and a great team player.
  • Strong technical skills within a show structure.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and problem-solve.
  • Experience rendering with Mantra.
  • Prior experience in the CG animation industry is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of Nuke is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of Renderman and/or Katana is an asset.
  • Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.

START DATE: January 2025
- Applicants must have resided within BC as of December 31, 2023 and be able to provide the appropriate supporting documents.
- All Atomic employees in this role have the opportunity to work remotely within BC, artists within Vancouver and the Lower Mainland can also choose hybrid and in-studio options.

At Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Entertainment, we take into consideration a wide range of compensation factors including background, skills, location, and experience to determine competitive pay. In addition to competitive pay, this position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits including medical, GRSP, vacation pay, paid holiday break, paid leave, and a variety of other discounts and perks. Please note: This expected pay range is for British Columbia and is not applicable to locations outside of the province of British Columbia.

Wage ranges are based on a weekly rate.

Vancouver Pay Range$1,400—$1,600 CAD
