Tiercon is seeking knowledgeable, self-directed, experienced and hardworking individuals interested in the automotive industry as a Controls Technician at our Stoney Creek facilities.

Job Summary & Reporting Structure:

The Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical control systems in an industrial setting. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical schematics, control circuits, and automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in troubleshooting and ensuring the optimal functioning of machinery and equipment used in manufacturing and production processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, improve, and repair equipment. Diagnose/ test PLC and Instrumentation problems, Diagnose/test equipment to correct malfunctions and makes improvement to accommodate new product and/or improve safety, operational quality, and productivity.
  • Ability to make changes to PLC programs. Read/write PLC logic across multiple versions, strong working knowledge of all Allen Bradley software, be able to create/edit HMI screens, basic understanding and troubleshooting of motion control systems. General electrical skills, troubleshooting equipment, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical control systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and HMIs.
  • Perform Preventive, Corrective, Planned or Breakdown Maintenance/Calibration on equipment.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation for existing and new equipment, control and building power system installations.
  • Interpret electrical schematics and control circuit diagrams to diagnose issues and ensure proper installation.
  • Ability to understand interaction of equipment and systems, and diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic problems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new control systems and update existing ones.
  • Familiarity with national and local electrical codes and regulations.
  • Work independently in troubleshooting and repair problems with Programmable Logic Controllers and related components when required
  • Assist with system startups and operational checkouts on systems including configuration, wiring, calibration, grounding and power testing
  • Diagnoses cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of equipment or systems repairs or replaces defective components.
  • Experienced in the use of electrical diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, amp clamps and meggers to test electrical circuits and components to locate shorts, faulty connections, defective parts and replaces or repairs to suit.
  • Interface with equipment operators and maintenance staff to ascertain problems with equipment.
  • Must read and interpret electrical and electronic drawings, schematics, blueprints, engineering drawings and sketches to determine problem and make appropriate repairs.
  • Utilize technical materials such as equipment manuals, MSDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and maintain systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited electrician apprenticeship program, or associate's degree or college diploma in electrical technology (or equivalent) or electrical engineering required.
  • Relevant certifications such as a journeyman license are preferred: 309a or 442a.
  • Strong Computer skills (Microsoft Office, CAD), Root Cause Analysis, General Mathematics, Problem Solving, Self Motivated, Decision Making, Blueprint reading.
  • Training Abilities, Communication, Performance & Department Management, Prioritizing Tasks, Root Cause Analysis, Utilize Computer Programs to support activities, Strong Mechanical Assembly.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control diagrams.
