Morison Insurance is currently seeking a Accounting Manager to oversee our accounting team and to join our team of insurance professionals! This role is located on-site, Monday - Friday.
Position Responsibilities
General
- Oversee the Accounting Department
- Monitor the financial performance of the company
- Monitor and manage transaction data
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual operating budgets
- Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company's procedures
- Communicate financial metrics to the leadership team
- Contribute to and/or complete special projects as assigned
- Actively participate in the success of the team
Transactions
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
- Ensure that accounts receivable is collected promptly.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
Administration & Reporting
- Issue timely and complete interim financial statements for management monthly
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Provide for a system of management cost reports
- Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Prepare government returns and remittances and payments
Skills You Will Need To Succeed
5+ years experience in a private firm, preferably in an Insurance/financial environment
Bachelor's Degree in accounting or equivalent
CPA preferred, CPA enrolled in final stages or recently designated considered an asset
Ability to perform a wide range of accounting and finance activities
Experience with our EPIC (our BMS) is an asset
Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a dynamic fast-paced environment
An affinity for exploring and using new software tools to drive continuous improvement
Experience managing budgets and resources
Very strong communication, task management, and prioritization skills
