Summary:

The Property Accountant for Cushman & Wakefield | Stevenson is a person with a passion for numbers, is naturally detail oriented and has a desire to be accurate and timely. The Property Accountant performs full cycle accounting duties for a portfolio of commercial properties, rental properties and condominiums. Providing financial support to department heads, property owners and site managers is the core of the Property Accountant's responsibilities. As a team player, the Property Accountant is patient, flexible and diligent with a strong sense of integrity and is deeply committed to supporting Cushman & Wakefield | Stevenson in achieving increasing levels of success.

The Property Accountant reports directly to the Supervisor, Accounting.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or diploma in accounting from a recognized institute or enrolment in a professional accounting designation program.
  • CPA designation considered an asset.
  • 2+ years of full-cycle property accounting experience required.
  • Experience using Yardi property accounting software required; experience using Spectra software considered an asset.
  • A track record of successfully dealing with accounting for multiple companies, business segments and overhead entities.
  • High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer services skills and a diplomatic approach to successfully building relationships with and solve problems for internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure and achieve quality results while handling multiple demands and competing priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily accounting duties for assigned commercial, condominium or residential properties; including preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling accounts and bank statements, maintaining and importing management fee schedules and producing various accounting reports required by Owners or the Condominium Board of Directors.
  • Ensures rent / common element fees are charged monthly.
  • Prepares and posts bank deposits and pre-authorized payments, and regularly monitors property bank account balances.
  • Ensures the accuracy of coding and property allocations into accounting system of all accounts payable and accounts receivable documents for responsible properties. Works closely with Property Manager for final review and approval.
  • Prepares and matches cheque runs and sends out cheques.
  • Prepares monthly financial statement package for each responsible property on a timely basis and in accordance with owner/property managers agreed upon format.
  • Assists property manager with the monthly analysis of accounts receivable and income/expense variance based on annual budget.
  • Provides and assists Auditor with year-end file preparation.
  • Prepares GST filings on behalf of properties as required (commercial properties only).
  • Prepares year end reconciliations for common area maintenance and property tax accounts (for commercial properties only).
  • Communicates with the respective property manager concerning property-related financial issues.
  • Other duties as required and assigned.
  • Develops and sustains cooperative working relationships at all levels of the business with multiple service areas.
