The Surveyor is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. to provide construction layout, quantity and as-built survey, quality control and other general survey duties.
Location & Hours:
This role will be based out of the Cranbrook headquarters office located at 1600A Theatre Rd., Cranbrook B.C. The position will entail travel to the jobsite, and when not in the field, is to be maintained from the office. Hours will vary depending on the needs of the Project, and weekend and/or overtime hours will be required on an as-needed basis to ensure the Project is on schedule. While working at the home office, regularly scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Sets up and operates Topcon survey and GPS equipment; directs and conducts a broad range of field surveys for construction purposes
- Accurately calculates heights, depths, positions, property lines, and other characteristics of worksite terrain
- Prepares accurate field data, notes, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys for construction purposes
- Verifies quality and accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations, coordinates findings with construction site management
- Accurately reads, interprets, and analyzes engineering drawings; produces accurate as-built drawings
- Sets elevations and grades for roads, utilities construction, and concrete works
- Prepares and maintains maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe work performed
- Cleans adjusts and maintains surveying instruments to maintain accuracy
- Additional duties as assigned
- Daily submission of daily timecards
- Daily submission of labour equipment materials report
- Additional duties as may be assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- Two (2) years proven Surveyor experience with a general contracting business is preferred
- In-depth understanding of construction operations and processes
- Must be legally eligible to work for any employer in Canada
- Position requires a high level of initiative and a positive attitude
- Must be able to give and follow both oral and written instructions
- Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
- Proficiency in computers, and Microsoft systems including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
- Flexibility to work overtime and/or weekend shifts, as needed
- Ability and willingness to travel; the successful candidate must be able to travel and work at multiple locations
- Organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and clean Driver's Abstract
