THE OPPORTUNITY
For over 50 years, Thomson Power Systems (a Regal Rexnord company) has been a leading manufacturer of electrical products and systems for use in the Power Generation Industry. We have an immediate opening for a Field Service Technician to join our Service team. The role is “hands on” and “in the field” performing a variety of field service activities on installed based critical power systems. In this role you will be the face of Thomson and the liaison with the customer in the delivery of value add services on installed equipment around the globe. You will be working with a strong cross-functional team dedicated to servicing our customers in the Data Centre, Healthcare, Waste Water and Industrial end markets. Driven and Solution Centric with a focus on customer service are essential functions for this position.
YOUR MISSION
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Field Service Supervisor, the primary job duties of Field Service Technician will include;
start-up, testing, commissioning, preventative maintenance, upgrades and modernization on low and medium voltage switchgear as well as automatic transfer switches using specified test equipment.
The role will assist in a wide variety of highly technical and complex duties related to installation, troubleshooting, service and repair of paralleling switchgear, automatic transfer switches, control systems and/or mechanical equipment at customer locations.
Responsibilities:
Develop and manage predictive and preventative maintenance programs for our installed based customers in Vancouver and surrounding area.
Perform all aspects of assigned field service work including site investigation, equipment installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of power distribution, control and automation systems.
Completion of assigned project field activities on time and meet customer functional requirements.
Work in close collaboration and cooperation with the local field service office and Thomson Power System (TPS) business headquartered on the west coast in Langley, BC Canada.
Build, develop and maintain exemplary customer and vendor relationships while maintaining a high level of quality and technical service.
Ability to track and submit project reports in a timely manner (Field Reports and Expenses).
Adhere to written standard testing and maintenance procedures for breaker, switchgear, relay, control and automation equipment testing.
Support Technical Training programs for customers, partners and employees on new and existing products.

ARE YOU THE ONE?
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
Hands on experience in preventative and predictive maintenance of power distribution and generation systems, and control equipment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Red Seal certified Industrial Electrician or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering.
Self-directed learner motivated and driven to take initiative towards their education and development in electrical power and distribution field services.
Basic understanding of Generator/AVR controls and synchronization/paralleling theory
General computer skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Word, Excel and OneNote as well as ability to use an Android or iPhone to perform daily work tasks.
Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical schematics & drawings.
High level of attention to detail with a strong ability to implement.
Excellent customer service skills, with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
50-75% Travel required, our customers have scheduled maintenance, emergency travel can come up but is not common, this includes both domestic and international travel.
Valid Drivers License required.
