The Cleaner & Maintenance Worker will be required to work Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Property Management or their designate, the Cleaner & Maintenance Worker is responsible for the general cleaning activities and maintenance at one or more Dixon Hall program site locations. The Cleaner & Maintenance Worker will also be responsible for routine ground maintenance, including snow removal, minor repairs, and painting, as required. The day-to-day duties of the Cleaner & Maintenance Worker will be supervised by the program manager of the location at which they are working but will report to the Director, Real Estate and Property Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide general clean of the Dixon Hall locations, including Out of the Cold, in accordance with the cleaning schedule and as directed. Provide special cleaning as required for areas which require extra attention.
  • Perform routine ground maintenance, including snow removal, minor repairs, and painting, as required.
  • Arrange for garbage and recycling removal in accordance with city pick-up schedule. Keep stairwells neat and tidy and free from barriers to access. Keep front and rear of building clean and free of refuse. Clear snow/leaves from building as necessary.
  • Test and maintain fire equipment as required. Arrange fire drills as required.
  • Set up for programs/meetings/events at program locations.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance to building, equipment, plumbing and electrical systems. Arrange for major repairs with suppliers.
  • Submit orders for all cleaning/maintenance and all other supplies in accordance with agency policies and monitor the stock of these supplies in order to re-order at the proper time and in the correct amounts.
  • Checking building HVAC system and arranging for regular maintenance with suppliers in accordance with agency policies.
  • Hold a current security clearance and be responsible for opening and closing program sites/buildings, as required.
  • Respond to security alarms that are triggered during regular business hours; function as the backup for responding to security alarms at all Dixon Hall locations.
  • Work safely at all times following Health and Safety policies and procedures, and report any potential hazards, faults, or problems to the Manager or appropriate emergency contact.
  • Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Dixon Hall.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in using cleaning and maintenance equipment; previous facilities management experience will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in cleaning and maintenance; trained in the procedures and practices of commercial property cleaning and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated skills in carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair and be familiar with and able to use such tools as may be required for such maintenance functions.
  • Experience with the safe use of cleaning chemicals and fluids and understand requirements under WHIMS legislation.
  • Strong verbal and written English language skills; Able to read and understand basic cleaning instructions and information, including health and safety directives; fluency in additional languages, relevant to the communities of service, will be considered an asset.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients, volunteers, the public and outside contractors in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Superior organizational and problem solving abilities; ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, prioritize, take initiative.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a diverse, ethno-racial, multi-lingual community setting.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete required tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
  • Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
