Job Title: Community Relations Specialist

Reporting to the SVP, External Affairs within the Sustainability department, the Community Relations Specialist will design and implement Skeena's community development activities with local partners, Indigenous communities, municipalities and various other stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Partnership development:

• Maintain and work to continuously improve Skeena's overall relationship with local communities, in keeping with our company values.
• Work in collaboration with the Regulatory Engagement team to implement community relations and engagement programs that support Skeena's project requirements.
• Manage relationships with external consultants and service providers who support Skeena's public relations and community relations activities.
• Identify new partnership opportunities with external service providers based within local communities that could enhance Skeena's operating activities.
• Conduct research and develop an understanding of key community's cultural practices prior to initial interactions.
Cultivate and grow relationships with local media outlets to earn coverage that promotes our programs, events, goals and achievements.


Local Engagement:


• Coordinate and participate in the execution of community relations events, tours and/or functions.
• Attend relevant events and activities to represent the company and build strong relationships with key community members.
• Work closely with the Skeena's People & Culture team to support the hiring of local community members.
• Assist Skeena's hiring efforts by promoting job postings within local communities.
Stay informed of trends within the local communities and identify challenges and opportunities that are relevant to Skeena.
Communication:
• Support senior leadership with preparing presentations to community leadership and partners.
• Draft and distribute communications that promote the Skeena's community relations activities.
• Identify new channels of communication that can further spread Skeena's message within local communities.
• Support and promote information sessions conducted as part of either community relations or regulatory engagement programs.
• Continuously work to educate Skeena stakeholders on the importance of community relations programs and how they benefit Skeena and local communities.
• Work closely with Skeena's communications team to ensure that community relations activities are being highlighted.
Handle sensitive information with integrity and a commitment to confidentiality.

Leadership:


• Train and mentor members of Skeena's community relations team.
• Make recommendations to Skeena senior management regarding strategies for workplace retention of local community members.
• Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership regarding community relations and outreach activities and future plans.
• Build and promote cross-functional relationships within Skeena.

The Ideal Candidate Possess:

• Diploma in Post-Secondary Business/Administration/Communications or similar is an asset
• 5+ years of administrative work experience
• Previous experience in mining is preferred, but not essential
• Previous experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
• Personable and service oriented attitude with excellent organizational skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
• Any experience with Mailchimp, Irwin, SEDAR, SEDI, EDGAR, or PW Web will be considered an asset
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both as part of a team and individually

Work Location & Conditions

This is an office-based job, located in either Terrace or Smithers, British Columbia on a Monday to Friday, 40- hour per week schedule. Some travel to Skeena's operating locations may be periodically required. The job is in a fast paced environment and will required the ability to manage multiple competing priorities at the same time. Some hybrid working options may be considered.
