About Practice Ready Ontario (PRO)

Funded by the Government of Ontario, Touchstone Institute works closely with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Medical Council of Canada, and others while administering the PRO program. PRO is a workplace assessment program that aims to add internationally trained family physicians or general practitioners who have completed post-graduate training and have an established track record of work in another country to practice in rural communities in Ontario.

Position Description

The Physician Recruitment Officer is responsible for utilizing existing contacts with physicians in rural and Northern Ontario to support the continued development of the PRO program. The Physician Recruitment Officer will engage physicians (medical offices) in rural communities to recruit designated assessor sites, whereby internationally trained family physician candidates will be assessed through a 12-week clinical field assessment.

Key Accountabilities

Operational Manage

  • Works alongside internal departments on the efficient and effective recruitment of physician assessors in rural communities with a RIO score of 40 and above in Northern Urban Referral Centres (i.e., Timmins, North Bay, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, and Thunder Bay).
  • Conducts ongoing outreach to rural sites by understanding their needs and requirements and offers PRO as an approach to fill their physician needs in the community.
  • Develops and implements a strategic recruitment strategy that ensures a continuous pipeline of qualified physician assessors to meet the objectives of the PRO program. Support from the communications team will be provided.
  • Attends conferences and career fairs representing the PRO program as needed (materials to be provided by Touchtone Institute).
  • Screens physician assessors through phone interviews and application materials to gauge eligibility.
  • Manages a contact list in coordination with the PRO team and coordinates strategic outreach with the PRO Implementation unit and Ontario Ministry of Health.
  • Engages with Ontario Ministry of Health regional consultants, hospitals and municipal recruiters, HR offices, etc.
  • Works closely with PRO Implementation team to onboard qualified physician assessors.
  • Supports the recruitment of physicians to act in committees and as regional leads.
  • Provides recruitment progress reports to the Director, Program Design and Implementation to ensure the objective of recruiting at least 80 physician assessors by early-2025 is achieved.
  • Develops strategies to keep physician assessors and sites engaged with the program.

Position Requirements

Knowledge

  • Experience as a Physician Recruiter with an established network of physicians in rural and northern Ontario.
  • Familiarity with medical education and registration pathways for internationally trained physicians.
  • Familiarity with Practice Ready Ontario or Practice Ready Assessment programs preferred.

Skills

  • Diplomatic yet persuasive.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work with others.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience in effective recruitment strategies/campaigns in a like program at a provincial or territorial level.
  • Comfort explaining the PRO program and engaging physicians to become assessors in the program.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, with a range of clients in various northern Ontario communities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education from a health sciences program or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a medical assessment recruitment role.

Contract Term: 8 Months
