ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T'exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

As part of the Health team, the Wellness Recovery Facilitator provides culturally sensitive, quality, and accountable services to Williams Lake First Nation members using a strength-based, trauma-informed approach. The Wellness Recovery Facilitator provides culturally appropriate support, advice, and advocacy for community members as identified and collaborate with other WLFN staff and programs, community resources, and supports as identified.

The Wellness Recovery Facilitator is responsible to coordinate pre-treatment, treatment, and posttreatment services to clients as well as complete screening and assessments of individual needs. Assist clients/members in identifying treatment facilities and referring clients using existing referral protocols.

The Wellness Recovery Facilitator is responsible for implementing and delivering prevention support in relation to alcohol and drug misuse as well as intervention services. They will have the ability to address sensitive information and issues with professionalism and confidentiality utilizing various methods of healing practices, techniques and therapeutic models.

The Wellness Recovery Facilitator will have willingness to undertake further training in the addictions field upon recommendation and/or to ensure current knowledge of best practices.

Employment Type

Full-Time Permanent (35 hours per week)

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

Certificate or Diploma in Human Services or related field.

Experience Required

  • Awareness of resources for individuals with substance misuse.
  • Understanding of the Stages of Change model, Harm Reduction.
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders, service providers, resources.
  • Experience with pre/post treatment planning, completing treatment referrals.
  • Supporting individuals with complex needs in harm reduction, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Experience working with Indigenous families and Communities.
  • Trauma informed practice training, Crisis Intervention training, Suicide Prevention training, or related certification(s) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of current social issues related to homelessness, mental illness, and substance use are essential.
  • Excellent written communication skills (letters, reports, proposals, etc.).
  • Knowledge of social and outreach services in Williams Lake and the surrounding area.

**A combination of experience and education will be considered.**

Overtime Status

Non-Exempt.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct client interviews and assessments in a professional and supportive manner.
  2. Provide education and prevention services and referrals.
  3. Determine outpatient (day), detoxification, residential/inpatient treatment needs and complete all necessary paperwork.
  4. Provide education, referrals, and mentorship to clients on identified issues.
  5. Prepare and present seminars to clients and community members on a wide range of topics.
  6. Develop and implement supportive intervention programs; facilitate support / education groups.
  7. Stimulate and promote programs for drugs and alcohol misuse, such as support circles, Alanon, A.A., N.A., sponsorships, etc.
  8. Maintain comprehensive case notes for daily client interaction.
  9. Gather statistics and provide reports in accordance to policy and funding expectations.
  10. Provide culturally competent practices and an understanding of the impacts of colonization for Indigenous communities, families, and individuals.
  11. Works closely with community-based programs on client needs.
  12. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.
  13. Contributes to the WLFN's ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
  14. Maintains WLFN's policy of Confidentiality, Code of Conduct, and other policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Williams Lake First Nation community, traditions, teachings, culture, protocols, and practices; and/or willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of Secwepemc culture, language and traditions is considered an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong facilitation, presentation, research, analytical, problem solving and report writing skills.
  • A team player, ability to develop effective and supportive relationships with all colleagues and promote/maintain collaborative approaches.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work well under pressure, and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office Environment, In community, Transportation of clients.
  • Most services are provided immediately.
  • To be aware of sensitivity, confidentiality and urgency of requests while balancing other work commitments.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Non-standard hours of work – May be required to accommodate the community needs and that may consist of evenings and weekends.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver's License and Driver's Abstract
  • Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver's License.
