Your Role at Raymond EMC
The Controller will primarily be responsible for the preparation of internal financial reports and analysis that drive good decision-making. Compiling numbers and data is a given, but the role is required to work alongside management to drive value from the business by adding knowledge of the business and a keen desire to understand business drivers and the markets. Typical of the role in most organizations, the Controller will also be responsible for timely and accurate external financial reporting and a smooth external audit, ensuring adequate internal controls are in place and that financial policies are adhered to.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and develop a small team of offshore Accounting & Reporting employees;
- Assist Managers in understanding their department's monthly results and work with department managers to ensure quality and accuracy of monthly financials;
- Support the Chief Financial Officer in the timely preparation of the financial reports presented to the Owners and other stakeholders;
- Ensure the organization utilizes ethical accounting practices, standards, tax compliance, and coordinate filings;
- Ensure government filings are complete and filed on a timely basis;
- Take ownership of the maintenance and usefulness of the general ledger, reporting systems, and the chart of accounts;
- Organize and oversee the annual external review fieldwork, ensuring all necessary documentation and information are provided to the external accountants;
- Support the annual Budgeting process including the preparation of the finance budget and supporting of the Budget template uploads into the ERP system;
- Oversee the other automated finance tools including the month-end checklist, account reconciliation automated tasks, the Expense Management Systems, and the accounts payable function;
- Involvement in system development and process improvement initiatives;
- Manage the monthly close process, including balance sheet reconciliations and re-forecasting the balance of the year;
- Manage bank relationships for the day-to-day cash management activities;
- Payroll processing and accounting; and
- Prepare accounting memos to support reporting positions.
First Year Deliverables / Measures of Success
Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate's ability to:
- Effectively integrate into the accountabilities of the role and absorb a high volume of organization specific knowledge including the business process, divisions, and customers;
- Build collaborative and trusting working relationships within the organization and the team;
- Effectively lead the accounting function through ongoing dynamic business transformation and growth ensuring the right balance of tasks and necessary training is available throughout the team;
- Play an integral role in the ERP upgrade implementation and managing change around the ERP Update to ensure the system and team are working in alignment; and
- Successfully manage competing demands and meeting targeted deadlines. Successfully provide leadership in the area of strengthening internal communication with staff at all levels throughout the organization; and
- Effectively collaborate with management to ensure the organization's objectives are being met.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have the following:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree, ideally in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- Professional accounting designation CPA, CA, CGA, CMA is required
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role;
- Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and demonstrate an ability to keep up to date with new ASPE Accounting guidelines;
- Ability to apply knowledge of new accounting standards to formulate Accounting Position papers and Policy documents that will guide how new standards will be applied to change current ways of work and reporting;
- Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet programs and applications (Office 365, QBO);
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Provide a valid Canadian Driver's license, minimum Class 5
- Provide a Criminal and a Credit Records Check Satisfactory to the Employer
- Ability to obtain Secret level clearance with the Government of Canada
