About us
A&K Robotics is a leader in self-driving technology. We develop autonomous vehicles that are changing how we move around our world. Our main product is an autonomous electric mobility pod designed to empower people to get around with more freedom and independence, starting in airports. We are working with the world's leading airports and airlines to deliver category-defining travel experiences and we're looking for more outstanding team members to contribute to our growth and help our customers win!
Role & Context:
We're looking for an Electrical Engineer who wants to put their passion and skills towards building something that will help people experiencing mobility limitations. We're seeing rapid market growth and we need team members who are not just excited about working with self-driving-technology but who are also very hands-on and eager to dive into the heart of our hardware team's efforts. Your role? To transform ambitious ideas and software/algorithms into sophisticated and reliable hardware systems, including drive systems, sensor integration, power supply management, firmware communications, and more. By joining our team, you won't just be working on any project – you'll be shaping the future of travel, making a tangible difference in the lives of people worldwide. Your work here matters. You will be part of bringing our vision and software to life, and creating a seamless, enjoyable travel experience for our global community.
What you'll be doing at A&K:
- Improving the scalability of our company by designing and building highly reliable electrical systems, including working within our software and hardware teams for the integration and calibration of motors, sensors, touch screens and control systems
- Increasing our product usability, by designing and building highly reliable 5V, 12V, 24V, 48V power management and power distribution systems for our next-gen robotic platforms that will be deployed globally.
- Ensuring we maintain the highest standards for quality by carrying out thorough, progressive testing and diagnosis of our electronic subsystems and fully built robots, and producing succinct documentation usable as we scale our team
- Ensuring that all electrical designs comply with relevant safety and industry standards
- Assembling, organizing, encasing cable harnesses and connections between components and throughout the robot and robot docking station
- Collaborate with a tight-knit interdisciplinary team. You'll review and have your work reviewed by teammates in software, operations, leadership and stakeholders to ensure our product is designed with diversity in mind.
What you'll bring to the team:
- 3+ (ideally 5+) years' experience in electrical battery power management and distribution design, testing and prototyping
- Proficiency in Electrical CAD design software (KiCAD or Altium in a professional capacity)
- Demonstrated experience in circuit prototyping and larger electrical systems debugging
- Hands on experience with testing and integrating motors, motor drivers and sensors
- Experience in firmware development and communication protocols such as I2C and SPI
- Exceptional problem-solving skills - ability to work within constraints, budgets and think outside the box
- You take immense pride in your work and pay attention to the smallest details
- You take ownership and responsibility for your tasks and actions, and lead by example
- Excellent writing skills that demonstrate organization and understanding of the big picture, while enabling you to efficiently and effectively communicate your work to others
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with autonomous mobile robots or self-driving vehicles
Most importantly, you share our values:
- Diversity makes innovation. We debate, listen, respect and include different perspectives
- Always strive to learn and be better. We push the bar higher and insist on the best
- Create value for people. Think big, be bold and see opportunities where others see challenges
- Make it better than we found it. Consider the long-term impact of our actions today
- Grit. Good things take work. We commit, battle and deliver as a team
* Applications without a project or experience portfolio will not be considered, diversity of projects is considered an asset
Compensation and Perks:
- Salary: $80,000 to $140,000, pending experience
- Ground floor stock options in a growing company
- Medical benefits
- Central Vancouver office location and gym access at current location
- Secured bike storage
