Job Scope

Reporting to the Shop Foreman and dotted line to the Fleet Maintenance Coordinator, the mechanically inclined Journeyperson Welder balances the responsibility of welding and fabricating heavy duty trucks, trailers, equipment, and more and perform preventative maintenance on trailers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Always maintain a Safety Mindset and contribute to a Positive Workplace Culture.
  • Perform welding techniques such as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).
  • Operate an Oxygen lance to remove stuck or seized pins or kingpins.
  • Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, work orders, CRY Sheets, technical manuals, welding process specifications, etc.
  • Perform welds on materials such as aluminum, carbon steel alloys, and stainless steels.
  • Maintain and perform repairs by welding, grinding, or gouging on Trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Inspect welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications for structure and transport.
  • Layout, cut, and handle materials with Oxy-acetylene torch, Plasma torch, Chop-saw, etc.
  • Fabricate new and existing designs for truck rig-ups and outside sales.
  • Perform effective preventative maintenance services and minor repairs on heavy duty trailers.
  • Maintain a clean and functional shop environment, toolbox maintenance, work area, and parts room cleanliness.
  • Operate equipment such as Scissor-lift, Forklift, and Skid Steer.
  • Assist APU installations, and repairs as required.
  • Maintain effective communication by providing regular updates and shift handoffs.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications Required:

  • Journeyperson Welder Certification with a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Active CVIP Licence considered an asset
  • Forklift Certification (Training provided)
  • Skid steer Certification (Training provided)
  • Minimum of 3 years of Fabrication experience
  • Fluent in English

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Exposure to dust, dirt, shop noise, water, and vibrations
  • Severe weather exposure such as extreme cold or heat.
