As a leading edge IT consulting firm, Avocette Technologies is growing and has an exciting 12 month full time contract plus possible extension opportunity for a Intermediate UX Designer to join our client in the greater Vancouver area remotely. We work with a wide range of clients including government and crown corporations, community services agencies, healthcare providers, and professional services organizations. Please note, both Avocette Technologies and our client will not cover relocation costs

Experience with various levels of Government (provincial and local), Crown Corporations and Healthcare would be considered highly desirable but not mandatory.


Specific Responsibilities and Deliverables:

  1. Uses critical thinking skills, researches appropriate resources required, understands, analyses and solves complex user/system interactions to design user experience that aligns with desired business needs with desired business outcomes. Quickly grasps business processes and users' perspectives and uses that understanding to propose UX designs that will enhance users' experiences and meet business and brand goals.
  2. Collaborates and interacts effectively to earn trust, persuade and motivate stakeholders, product owners and team members, through effective visual, verbal and written communications.
  3. Facilitates all visual and workflow design stages from concept to final hand-off based on a thorough understanding of business needs and relevant personas and journey maps. Leads the development of wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, site maps, prototypes, and mockups, in collaboration with Experience, Marketing & Insights, business stakeholders, product owners, business engineers, and others.
  4. Contributes feedback towards working requirements, proposes options, articulates and justifies design decisions based on an understanding of the business goals and the user's goals, context, and abilities, and by using techniques such as design thinking principles.
  5. Participates in the discovery, conceptualization and implementation of the user experience design. With an extraordinary attention to detail and craftsmanship, designs user-interfaces that are compelling, intuitive and well thought across multiple desktop and mobile devices to create optimized, cross-platform user-centered experiences that are consistent across products developed throughout the organization.
  6. Uses our style library effectively and, when a new element or component is required, develops and proposes designs for new standard library items. Designs graphic user interface elements, like menus, tabs, widgets, buttons and search fields. Applies the library to propose and develop creative solutions to experience design challenges, such as how to convey large amounts of help text or how to display tables on a mobile device.
  7. Improves efficiency and effectiveness of the user experience by supporting A/B testing and analyzing data to optimize UI elements during product development.
  8. Reviews and analyses production data to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the user experience when continued investment is warranted.
  9. Participates in presentations of designs for review and approval at pod levels including senior levels across Enterprise DevOps.
  10. Assists the UX team in maintaining and progressing the living style guidelines for design patterns and UI components for use by business engineers and software engineers.
  11. Provides estimates for UX work on Enterprise DevOps pods backlogs.
  12. Participates in pod activities as assigned: backlog grooming, sprint planning, team retrospectives and provides feedback on overall platform and program improvements. This includes working with the scrum master, product owner, the Enterprise DevOps team, and the communities of practice.
  13. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • University degree related to psychology, creative design, digital media, marketing, fine arts or communications studies.
  • 9-12 years (real-time) experience in Information Technology with at least 3 years experience in UX/UI design, interaction design or other related disciplines.
  • A thorough portfolio that demonstrates intuitive and compelling designs.
  • Knowledge of and ability to create interactive prototypes in CSS and HTML.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
