We are currently seeking a Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Manager to join our dedicated team and help maintain our high safety and environmental standards.
Position Summary:
As the HSSE Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the health, safety, security, and environmental programs for the yard. You will ensure compliance with all relevant local, provincial, and federal regulations while promoting a strong safety culture across the organization. You will play a critical role in risk mitigation, incident investigation, and fostering a proactive approach to HSSE practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain HSSE policies and procedures in line with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and security laws, including Workers' Compensation Act, Canada Labour Code, and relevant marine regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on safety practices, emergency procedures, and environmental policies.
- Manage HSSE records, reports, and documentation to ensure accurate tracking and compliance.
- Develop and promote a safety-first culture, encouraging continuous improvement and proactive risk management.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with best practices.
- Oversee environmental protection programs, ensuring the yard's operations minimize environmental impact and comply with regulations.
- Ensure security protocols are in place to protect the facility, personnel, and assets.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in an HSSE role within the maritime, shipbuilding, or industrial sectors.
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Thorough understanding of relevant safety, environmental, and security regulations in Canada, particularly in a ship repair environment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence a safety-oriented culture across all levels of the organization.
- Experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and hazard assessment.
- Certifications such as CRSP, CSP, or equivalent are considered an asset.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 standards is an advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software.
