Full job descriptionThe Director of Research and Development will be responsible for all aspects of design and implementation of our mechanized welding systems including both hardware and embedded systems.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for hardware architecture and design aspects of product development.
- Oversee design, testing, certification, prototyping, and manufacturing.
- Work with the team to advise on technical feasibility and provide innovative solutions to achieve product requirements.
- Working with the team to develop embedded solutions including PCB schematic capture, layout, building, and testing as well as firmware development efforts.
- Report progress and issues frequently to ensure visibility to management on technical hurdles and project progress.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- 5+ years hardware design experience (preferred)
- Circuit Design and Analysis: Extensive experience in designing, analyzing, and optimizing analog and digital circuits.
- PCB Design: Proficiency in PCB design and layout using tools such as Altium Designer.
- Microcontrollers and Microprocessors: Deep knowledge of various microcontroller and microprocessor architectures (e.g., ARM, PIC, MC68332).
- Embedded Systems: Experience with integrating hardware and firmware for embedded systems.
- Power Electronics: Knowledge of power supply design, including DC-DC converters, power distribution, and battery management systems.
- Signal Integrity and EMC: Expertise in signal integrity analysis, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design, and mitigation techniques.
- Prototyping and Testing: Experience with rapid prototyping, hardware debugging, and using test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers)
- Manufacturing Processes: Understanding of PCB fabrication, assembly processes, and experience with DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
- Soldering: Advanced soldering skills, including surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole techniques.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of identifying and resolving issues effectively.
- Leadership: Experience fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in firmware development.
