Responsibilities:
- Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames, joists, partitions, rafters, and stud work.
- Designing and installation of cabinets, shelves, drywall, and insulation.
- Ability to operate tools, machines, and other equipment.
- Adding fittings and fixtures including door handles, hinges, locks, and closures.
- Selecting lumber as per the requirements of the project and sourcing wood that fits within budget and meets style specifications.
- Ability to assess the quality of woodwork and materials
- Liaising with personnel to discuss project details and timelines.
- Consulting other construction professionals to ensure the best possible results and the final product.
- Reading blueprints and designs prepared by other architects, construction professionals.
- Ensuring they meet building code recommendations and requirements.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders per WorkSafe BC standards.
- Perform mathematical calculations to estimate materials required and determine appropriate building measurements.
- Layout of foundation, building lines and anchor bolts.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or a minimum of 3 years experience as a journey-level carpenter.
- Comprehensive knowledge of building regulations and codes
- High level of creativity and excellent design skills
- Cabinet making or joinery skills
- PPE and carpentry trade tools.
- Troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Physical stamina for lifting equipment and working at various heights and in tight spaces.
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
- Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and practices used in the carpentry trade.
- Knowledge of the qualities of various woods and their adaptability and uses.
- Knowledge of the proper application of wood and metal studs in framework.
Nice to Haves:
- Have own vehicle or reliable transportation.
- Has Fall Protection, First Aid and/or WHMIS.
- Experience working on high-rise projects
- Tickets in Heavy Equipment Use.
- Live in and have access to sites in Vancouver and Lower Mainland.
