Position Overview
The Accounts Payable Clerk will ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable tasks, vessel advances, accounts receivable, vessel charges, banking, DFO hails, and shipping documents. This role also involves reception duties and support for day-to-day payroll, accounting, and administrative tasks at Mersey.
Mersey Seafoods' head office is in Liverpool, NS. The successful candidate will work from Liverpool, NS. As we prefer to work collaboratively and face-to-face, this role is an in-office/on-site position.
This position involves the following duties:
· Preparing, reviewing, and processing invoices payable, purchase orders, and receiving documents
· Processing payable checks and fishermen advances
· Managing sales and inventory documents
· Maintaining payroll and employee records
· Submitting employee ROEs and vessel hails
· Preparing and submitting shipping and customs documents
· Performing office reception tasks, including phone handling and greeting visitors
· Completing administrative tasks, such as scanning, copying, and sending emails or faxes
· Processing cash sales for walk-in customers
· Preparing and reviewing sales and purchasing slips
· Generating various internal and external reports and spreadsheets
· Handling mailing, courier, and banking tasks as needed
· Assisting office staff and management with administrative support
· Supporting payroll staff and additional administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in accounting or finance preferred.
· 1-2 years of experience in accounts payable or related financial role.
· Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Great Plains) and Word Perfect and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
· Excellent organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to work independently, as part of a team and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Founded in 1964 in Liverpool, NS, Mersey Seafoods is one of Nova Scotia's largest privately owned seafood companies, exporting to international markets around the world. Hours of Work
Mersey's standard work schedule is 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
The employee acknowledges and agrees that their work hours may vary and be irregular to meet role and organization objectives, and that Mersey may adjust their duties as needed.
