The Bookkeeper reports to the Director of Finance and is expected to assist with payroll, budgeting,
and monthly and year-end statement preparation as well as benefit administration, annualT4 and
other government reporting, and the ongoing set-up, maintenance and improvement of payroll and
budgeting systems.
Responsibilities:
• Ensures that the department maintains compliance, which is consistent with the Ministry of Health
and Long Term Care,Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and internal policies/procedures,
collective bargaining unit.
• Sets vision, goals and objectives for the department in line with the overall management
company's vision and strategicdirections.
• Ability to problem solve, conflict resolution skills.
• Performance management of Bookkeepers
• Supervision of Bookkeepers
• Demonstrates good knowledge of Collective Agreements, Employment Standards Act and Labour
Relations Act
• Conducts regular audits of facility systems, both computerized and supporting manual sub-
systems.
• Participates in annual external audit of facilities.
• Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators
• Accounting functions are completed accurately and on time including, but not limited to: Payroll:
• setup and maintenance of the facility payroll systems
• assistance with maintenance of group benefits plans
• Payroll back-up
• Preparation of specific Ministry of Health annual reports
• Assistance with preparation of budgets, annually and as needed
• Assistance with preparation of monthly statements
• Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory
Qualifications:
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or Business Administration
Minimum of 2 years accounting experience to include:
Computerized payroll with service bureaus such as ADP or Ceridian, as well as year-end
reporting (T4's and summaries, EHT, WSIB, etc.)
Bank reconciliation.
Accounts payable
Accounts receivable
Benefits administration
Related and recent professional and skill development courses would be desirable.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, NetSuite and PointClickCare of computer programs.
Ability to interpret Union contracts, policies and procedures.
Sense of responsibility, integrity, and confidentiality.
Ability to multi-task.
Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact efficiently and
courteously with residents, public, employees, and volunteers.
Ability to demonstrate care in use of supplies and equipment, and the ability to maintain
neat work area.
Good organizational skills.
Ability to work independently.
Must be level-headed and calm in emergencies.
Second language an asset.
Background in long-term care an asset.
Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including
a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one
As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB
testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the
last year), as per Public Health requirements.
Two supervisory references are required.
