TEMPORARY SKILLED LABOURER (WINTER OPERATIONS) - PUBLIC WORKS (4 Positions)
Reporting to: Public Works Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor
Department: Public Works
Classification: Temporary Full-Time Hours (Maximum 6 months); Unionized
Salary Range: $30.72/hour as per Schedule “A”
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Starting Date: November 15th, 2024

- Perform various manual labour duties such as, but not limited to:
- Work on the concrete crew,
- Assist Vactor Truck Operator with routine flushing and cleaning catch basins,
- Work on the sewer crew,
- Repair manholes and catch basins,
- Clear debris from roadways,
- Apply cold patch to roads needing repairs and report work completed to the Supervisor,
- Primarily complete duties of Waste Collection vehicle operator,
- Work at the Enviro Depot,
- Perform Winter Control Maintenance duties such as Road Plow and Sidewalk plowing activities.
- Perform traffic maintenance duties:
- Set up traffic control measures,
- Fix or replace traffic signs.
- Perform other duties as required, such as, but not inclusive of:
- Help mechanics as needed,
- Paint and clean equipment,
- Wash, fuel and complete general equipment maintenance,
- Perform annual sewer inspections,
- All other duties as assigned.
Essential
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Class DZ Ontario Driver's License in good standing.
- Must have or willing to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR training.
- Must be able to attend mandatory Orientation Training.
- Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent.
- Experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment.
- Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions, and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.
- Subject to working in all weather conditions.
- Works in dirty conditions and is required to do heavy lifting.
- Subject to shift work and overtime as required.
