INVEST OTTAWA – GLOBAL EXPANSION

Business Development, and the wider Global Expansion Department, help drive the growth of Ottawa's mature tech ecosystem. Separate from startup strategies, the team helps identify growth challenges, pain points, and high impact opportunities for large local, multinational and well-established SMEs. This is done through multi-stakeholder engagement such as for R&D withresearch institutes, universities and colleges; funding from federal and provincial initiatives;recruitment, through our Talent Team; market expansion into the Americas; and, B2B relationship
building. Other methods of support include convening industry and researcher expertise for roundtable consultations and public events.

As a member of the Business Development Team, you will gain knowledge of the operations of Ottawa's leading economic development agency. You will assist the Business Development Team in the planning, logistics, and launch of an industry consultation round table centred on the adoption, management and growth of Ai in Ottawa; its impact on business and innovation; and, the tools, partnerships and supports needed to further applied-Ai in Ottawa.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

  • Provide support to the Senior Manager for the planning, promotion, execution and debriefing of an industry roundtable consultation on the use of artificial intelligence technologies, including:
  • Venue logistics coordination with the Bayview Yards events team;
  • Promotion of the roundtable with the Marketing strategist, through multiple tools (email, LinkedIn, Twitter, Eventbrite);
  • Engagement of potential sponsors to support the event, including collaborating with the Partnerships team to optimize partner involvement;
  • Assistance with the solicitation of Invest Ottawa stakeholders to contribute to program planning and moderating.
  • Understand the key performance indicators involved in the delivery of a high impact roundtable, that is meant to inform larger strategy for Invest Ottawa and regional stakeholders;
  • Ensure Microsoft 365 tools are fully utilized, including CRM database;
  • Assist in meetings with stakeholders, participants-speakers, and internal leadership, including capturing notes and creating action items for follow up;
  • Develop and edit communications, including email and social media posts, to solicit attendee, sponsor-partner, speaker, and expert participation;
  • Conduct lead generation and research targeting new industrial participants

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/ GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:

  • A minimum of 2 months experience in a customer facing or similar support role
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Team player who enjoys working and communicating with highly collaborative people
  • Friendly, professional approach and attitude
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to prioritize tasks
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with varied deadlines
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Self-starter who is highly motivated and takes initiative
  • Interest in learning more about business development activities, economic development, foreign direct investment, and innovation.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with diverse teams and/or working in a customer-facing or client-facing role (this could include retail and hospitality experience too)
  • Familiarity with additional platforms such as Fellow.app, Asana, Eventbrite
  • Passion for learning about technology and innovation
