The ICC Model is a project involving multiple partners, aimed at providing inclusive childcare to anyone who would like to access it. Using a family-centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed approach, the new Family Connection Centre (FCC) will work as a collaborative place where families can access resources and information, as well as referrals into programs that can serve their child's needs. This includes inclusive childcare, SLP, OT, Physiotherapy, and other support services. Alongside operational partners, BGCO aims to provide family-centered services in an environment where all children, including those with support needs, can participate, thrive, and have equitable access to services that respond to their evolving needs. This position will predominantly involve working in Early Years settings but may also include children up to the age of 19. Inclusive Childcare Workers will promote an inclusive approach and collaborate with various childcare teams within the community.

This is a temporary role starting October 2024 -March 31, 2025, or return of the incumbent.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Practice with culturally safe, trauma-informed, relational, person and family-centered approaches.
  • Deliver child-specific services including:
    • Meet with families and their children to assess the needs of the child or youth in a child care setting.
    • Work with the child care provider and family to develop and monitor strategies for the child so they can fully participate in inclusive child care.
    • Determine if extra staffing support is required to enable the child's participation in child care and determine number of hours needed.
    • Work the child care provider, family, and school district to support transition to kindergarten
  • Deliver child care program-specific capacity building services.
  • Deliver practical professional learning opportunities to child care programs in the region regarding foundational skills and knowledge for providing inclusive child care. This involves partnering with the child care provider to identify and enable professional learning opportunities.
  • Leads, develops, manages and supports staff. Manages, directs and supervises assigned staff; hires, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary and ensures that staff resources are managed effectively to meet the service delivery requirements of the Stream. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in early childhood education or a related field.
  • Three years of work experience in inclusive child care including experience with community-based or multi-disciplinary services.
  • Current approved first aid certificate
  • Knowledge of community child care resources and other community support services.
  • Knowledge of the communities served by the Family Connection Centre.
  • Preferred experience working with the Supported Child Development or Aboriginal Supported Child Development program.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a cultural safety framework.
  • Supervisory experience, including clinical oversight.

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Rate of Pay: $37.55 per hour
