Job Description

Our Recreation and Culture department is currently seeking a permanent full-time Project Coordinator, Public Lands - Recreation. The incumbent is responsible for leading, coordinating, and monitoring the progress of approved field and administrative special projects or initiatives under the responsibility of Recreation and Culture department. There is a requirement to work closely with internal County departments (Planning and Development, Transportation and Utilities, Risk Management, Asset Planning) and external stakeholders such as community volunteer groups, contractors and government agencies. This role will also be involved in external grant applications for the department, research and administrative support for Special Projects and provide support for department special events and programming.

Job Duties:

  • Lead and coordinate departmental Capital projects as assigned, working closely with the Recreation Infrastructure Coordinator or other internal Subject Matter Expert (SME) depending on the nature of the project.
  • Be directly involved in the creation of the Project Charter for departmental and community projects as assigned, through to project completion.
  • Be responsible for the County's interests through the internal Contractor Vendor Management program related to departmental or community field projects to which Project support is assigned.
  • Coordinate and manage documentation related to Field projects to which Project responsibilities are assigned, including oversight of Project Central sites or other digital project management tools. Keep and maintain electronic and hard copy files and records in a comprehensive and organized fashion.
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings with (GOA) Alberta Environment and Parks and relevant Government of Alberta Ministries, including coordinating meetings as required.
  • Internally manage recreation leases for County-owned and County-leased recreation lands, working with other County departments where applicable and approve payment of annual disposition renewal fees.
  • Work with County Lands Administration to apply for renewals or reassignments of recreation dispositions held with the Province as required. Compile all information required to submit the application.
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Director, Recreation and Culture
Qualifications
  • Project management certification and / or experience.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field or trade.
  • 2 years' experience in project planning, implementation or support, or in recreation, or in landscape construction or a related field.
  • Previous oversight of field projects including ground disturbance would be an asset.
  • Municipal recreation / planning / construction background.
  • 2 years' experience in office administration or equivalent.
  • Experience with public interaction, communication and consultation.
  • Hold current or be willing to be trained on Canadian Certified Playground Inspector certification.
  • Basic understanding of land management and the role of the Crown in public lands would be an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driver's abstract

Work Schedule:

This position works Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for 35 hours per week.

Hourly Pay: $37.76 to $44.42 per hour.
