In this strategic role, you will plan, coordinate, implement, and maintain the County's health and safety management system.

Job Description

You will support management to ensure hazard assessments, workplace inspections, incident reports and investigations, and on-the-job safety training are competently completed on behalf of the County of Grande Prairie. You will provide knowledge, leadership, and direction to support continuous improvement of our safety culture. You will play a critical role in overseeing and ensuring the implementation of effective health and safety policies and procedures across our organization. You will collaborate with various departments to create a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Your efforts will directly contribute to the well-being of our workforce and the overall success of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies, programs that align with industry standards, legislation and organizational strategic goals
  • Leading a team of Health and Safety Advisors by providing guidance, support, and oversight for Health and Safety team members in executing their daily roles and responsibilities
  • Coach and advise leaders and workers on a variety of health and safety issues by providing guidance and tools for improvement
  • Collaborate with leaders in every department to promote a positive culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, and review of health and safety policies and procedures to ensure standardized practices across the organization
  • Foster a positive safety-conscious culture by promoting awareness, accountability, and adherence to safety compliance and continuous improvement
  • Lead regular workplace inspections and audits and implementing and completing audit action plan initiatives
  • Lead investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain health and safety related metrics and reporting
Qualifications
  • Occupational Health and Safety degree or diploma
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive health and safety supervisory level experience, preferably in a municipal or public sector environment
  • Demonstrated professional experience conducting investigations and audits
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation preferred
  • Experience conducting training sessions and coaching at a cross organizational level
  • In-depth knowledge of Alberta's occupational health and safety regulations and codes
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing safety programs and policies
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and tools to track and report safety metrics
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract required
  • Criminal record check

Additional Information

Work Schedule:

This position is 35 hours per week Monday to Friday 8:30am – 4:30pm with some flexibility and/or additional hours to attend meetings or meet operational needs.

This posting will be open until October 4th 11.59 pm MST.

Hourly Pay: $57.03 to $67.09
