SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Supervisor, Gym/Club Programming, the Recreation Coordinator -Grants/Partnership is responsible for the implementation, administration, and instruction of recreational programmes within designated program areas for a community. Co-ordinates grants and programs delivered by community partners and are responsible for overseeing and training of part-time staff and volunteers.
GENERAL DUTIES
Under the direction of the Supervisor team, assists in the development and scheduling of daytime, evening, and weekend grant and partnership programs at Recreation and Community Centres.
Under the direction of the Supervisor team; plans and spends allocated programming funds and grant budget within an approved amount.
Assists in the development, training, and mentorship of part time Recreation staff in regards to grant initiatives and provides feedback on part time staff performance to Recreation Supervisor.
Under the direction of the Supervisor team; assists in the hiring, development and monitoring of part time and seasonal staff, scheduling for part time staff and completes time sheets and necessary correspondence to ensure the efficient delivery of community programs.
Demonstrates and teaches recreational activities; sets up equipment and programs.
Assists in the evaluation of programmes and prepares grant and partnership summary reports.
Actively coordinates and solicits patron and community feedback and input into recreational and community programming and prepares information and recommendations to meet needs/requests.
Assists with localized marketing initiatives and promotion through school boards and partner agencies and assists in the implementation and promotion of new initiatives.
Completes and maintains recreational reports, such as attendance tracking, preparing minor/major accident reports and petty cash.
Verifies revenues and accounts receivable for Recreation Centre such as bank deposits of grant funding and preparing monthly reports to reconcile program expenses.
Coordinates rentals and contracts to ensure access from community partners
Receives and addresses concerns and inquiries from patrons and public in a timely fashion.
Required to work regularly scheduled evenings and weekends based on facility operations, public utilization and program delivery. May be responsible for opening and closing of the facility during shifts to facilitate community access and grant initiatives.
Ensures that employees are provided with and use the appropriate equipment, material and/or procedures required to perform the assigned duties. Ensures that all employees perform work in accordance with applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures that appropriate action is recommended for those employees who do not work in compliance with legislation, policies and procedures.
Works in accordance with the provisions of all applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.
Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A community college diploma/certificate in Recreation & Leisure program, OR a combination of equivalent and related education (in recreation, leisure and or programming) AND relevant work experience.
- Experience related to planning, co-ordinating and implementing leisure, team and recreational programs and activities. Demonstrate and teach recreational activities, experience leading part time/ temporary staff and volunteers and evaluate and promote programs and activities.
- Progressive experience related to writing grants, completing program reports, and facilitating community partnerships and access to facilities.
- Must possess and maintain current certification in “Standard” First Aid with CPR Level “C”. (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All “Standard” First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website wsib.on.ca for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide “proof” that you possess the required certificate(s).
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
- Must have a valid Class “G” Driver's Licence and provision of a vehicle for use on the job.
- High Five Training is an asset.
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages is an asset.
- It is the expectation that the incumbent is able to work days, evening and weekend shifts.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS "G" DRIVER'S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.
NOTE 1: This position currently requires the incumbent(s) to use their personal vehicle(s) 3 or more times per week for City business. In accordance with the City policy, parking is provided at this time. Should this job requirement change, parking will only be provided in accordance with the City policy in force at that time.
NOTE 2: As a condition of employment, the successful applicant(s) will be required to obtain a Police Vulnerable Sector Check, at their own expense, prior to beginning work in this position.
