As we continue to expand our portfolio of next-generation products, we are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Product Development Technical Designer to play a critical role in the development and documentation of our cutting-edge products.

Please note this is an in-office position, located at our head office in Ottawa, ON, address: 2650 Queensview Dr. Unit #150, Ottawa, ON K2B 8H6.

YOUR CHALLENGE:

  • Under the supervision of Senior Designers and Engineers the PD Technical Designer will work on product priorities tied to the delivery of the Product Roadmap and active project priorities.
  • Utilize industry-standard computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 3D models of waterslide components and systems. Ensure the models are to scale, and all critical dimensions and tolerances are accurately represented.
  • Create detailed, clear, concise and accurate technical drawings, schematics, installation manuals, and assembly details of ProSlide's new and existing products to support manufacturing, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Develop Work Instructions used to communicate any individualized or temporary deviation from existing established documentation or practices.
  • Responsible for efficiently and accurately handling Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), documenting non-compliant product components or processes, participation in the investigation of root causes, and working with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Work within existing protocols for file creation and storage (PDM software) and adhere to ProSlide's documentation standards.
  • Draft Change Notices and facilitate their release of new or updated technical documentation. Track the progress of change notices to ensure timely completion and seamless integration of modifications across relevant teams.
  • Collaboration with internal departments on the efficient implementation of Product Improvements received from Field Services and Project Management teams.
  • Select suitable materials, hardware, and off the shelf components, considering factors such as durability, compatibility, and environment.
  • Collaborate with industrial designers, engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to align technical designs with overall product requirements and project timelines.
  • Assist in the development and testing of waterslide prototypes, providing technical and hands-on support to Engineers and Designers throughout the prototyping phase.
  • Ensure that all technical designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and building codes. Contribute to risk assessment and safety reviews for waterslide designs.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of technical documentation creation and product development.
  • Perform rigorous checks and verifications on technical drawings and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • On-site product and ride verification; international travel required (up to 15%)
  • Perform activities in the office - 40hrs per week

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Bachelor's degree in; Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology (Diploma) or a related field.
    Minimum 3 years of previous experience as a Technical Designer or Design Technician, preferably in the field of product development or amusement park ride design
  • CAD Proficiency: Strong proficiency in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) with the ability to create complex 3D models and accurate technical drawings. SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Prior experience conducting Change Notices and operating in a Product Data Management (PDM) environment.
  • Possess knowledge of engineering principles, materials science, manufacturing processes, and technical documentation standards.
  • Demonstrates a proactive and self-directed approach to task completion with the ability to comprehend task explanations and carry out tasks efficiently with little supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience in building and construction. Have a strong understanding of practical applications, the ability to work with tools and materials, and a keen eye for translating design concepts into tangible constructions
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering precise and error-free technical designs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to cross-functional teams.
  • Strong team-oriented mentality with a proactive solutions mindset and a willingness to assist in any capacity.
