Progressing in a Commercial Lines underwriting role and looking for a different challenge? More interested in developing the products you sell, the underwriting rules you adhere to, and modifying the systems you work in than continuing to underwrite, longer term? This product analyst / specialist role is then one to consider. As a successful candidate you would be responsible to support and direct the product and pricing initiatives under the leadership of the product and pricing manager and you would have a material impact on the growth and profitability of Gore's Commercial Lines division. As part of the role, you would be conducting consumer and broker research to understand the needs of consumers for product development initiatives and broker distribution strategies. You would work with the Business Insights Manager to monitor the performance of the Commercial Lines portfolio against the operational plan and report findings / variances that will inform and drive strategic future product and pricing initiatives. You would support the preparation and delivery of stakeholder communications, work closely with Gore's actuarial team for pricing recommendations, and also support our technology team for system improvements and enhancements for the very changes that you recommend. As a commercial auto analyst, this role would also support the completion of FSRA underwriting filings as required, maintain system rate files, and accompanying product and pricing manuals.

What will you do?

  • Portfolio management of existing products along with the business insights manager and the product and pricing managers to ensure we achieve financial and growth objectives. This includes recurrent reviews of the Gore portfolio as well as overall industry performance.
  • Escalate concerns and provide recommendations to address gaps to meeting desired objectives to the product and pricing manager. Perform analyses using MS Excel and other third-party software.
  • Work closely with the actuarial team and the technology team to bring necessary improvements to meet financial and growth objectives.
  • Support and assist with the completion of underwriting filings with FSRA as required. Update underwriting manual as required.
  • Complete reviews of competitive positioning on rates, rules, products, and coverage. Synthesize and communicate metrics and recommendations to the product and pricing manager within the organization to influence the strategic direction of Gore.
  • Research, analyze and present findings/recommendations at the subcommittee level and provide subject matter expertise to IT to support underwriting related projects.
  • Review regulatory reforms and provide direction to the product and pricing manager for presentation to the committee. Keep up with industry trends and bulletins and changes through the industry such as IBC.
  • Support creation and facilitation of communications and training for changes that have been approved by the committee.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Minimum 3 years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience at a minimum intermediary role – Commercial Auto
  • Minimum of 1 year in performance analysis (with a focus on Commercial Auto product and pricing)
  • Project Management and System Development and Asset – all current / former Product Owners should consider applying
  • Excellent communication, decision making, and critical thinking skills
