Schema App is looking for an Engineering Manager. The purpose of this role is to lead the engineering team to ensure efficient, predictable delivery of high-quality software, while maintaining technical excellence, supporting team growth, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

1. Technical Support and Mentorship: Provide hands-on technical support to guide and mentor the team through implementation, ensuring adherence to best practices and timely delivery of solutions.
2. Project Delivery: Own the successful and timely delivery of engineering projects in alignment with the plan of record. Ensure the team meets its commitments by balancing capacity, priorities, and timelines, while delivering high-quality solutions that support business and product objectives.
3. Scrum Ceremonies: Lead key Scrum ceremonies, including Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, and Retrospectives, to ensure smooth and organized sprint cycles. Support the Product Owner in maintaining a well-groomed backlog and ensure alignment on sprint goals.
4. Engineering Direction: Maximize team velocity by creating a supportive environment that encourages continuous improvement. Lead recruitment efforts to build a high-performing team and manage team growth, ensuring the development of team members' technical and leadership skills.

Key Competencies

• Technical Expertise – Understanding of whole technical stack, with specialist knowledge of either Software Architecture, DevOps, AWS Infrastructure or Security/Compliance, with an ability to guide the team in implementing effective solutions.
• Leadership – Ability to inspire and manage an engineering team, ensuring accountability, engagement, and development.
• Agile Execution – Proficiency in Scrum and agile processes, with a focus on continuous delivery and improvement.
• Decision Making – Strong ability to make informed decisions based on data, business needs, and team input, driving delivery and innovation.
• Mentorship and Growth – A commitment to the ongoing development of team members through coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities.

• Cycle Time – Reduce the time it takes for code to be shipped, measured in days from development start to production release.
• “A” Player Team - Ensure that 80% team members are considered A players, as defined by the Topgrading framework.
• SOC2 Security – Ensure compliance with SOC2 standards and maintain security controls across engineering practices.
• Change Failure Rate – Reduce the percentage of changes that lead to production failures or rollbacks.
• Test Coverage – Maintain high test coverage to ensure software quality and minimize defects.
