Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified Full-Time Program Supervisor, to provide support at the Youth Support Centre(YSC).

What We Do

YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. Based in Edmonton, our Youth Support Centre provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 sleep support and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15 - 24.

We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

What You Will Do

The Youth Support Centre Supervisor will be responsible for acting as a leader for the YSC staff including Team Leads, Youth Workers and Intake Staff. They will ensure all youth who access shelter services have a secure and caring experience. They will support YESS personnel and youth in the program and role model socially and professionally acceptable behaviour. This individual will be highly organized and can demonstrate strong behaviour management skills.

The shift schedule: Hours are likely to vary from week to week with occasional weekends

Location: 9310-82 Avenue, Edmonton AB

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise a diverse team, promoting team effectiveness through excellent communication strategies, adequate resources, performance reviews, education, and ongoing supervision.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of new team members.
  • Maintain client records, including client assessments, treatment plans and progress notes.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, Trauma Informed environment within the Centre.
  • Provide support and feedback with staff's required documentation, monthly summaries, and critical incident reports.
  • Ensures that access to and disclosure of information and records are in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act
  • Ensure staff is adequately trained in safety practices, building inspections, supervision, etc., and regular building checks and monthly fire drills are conducted as per Agency policy
  • Provide support and consultation as required to the scheduling and after-hours On-Call team.

You will be qualified to provide a safe, clean, and secure environment for youth. You have a harm reduction mind set and can provide suicidal ideation intervention and safety planning. You also know how to build community support connections.

Additionally, you will provide a professional level of service to donors, promote the agency in a positive manner to the outside community and share information, communicate and collaborate with other YESS staff

What You Bring

  • A Certificate, Degree or Diploma in Child & Youth Care or related Human Services field
  • A minimum of 5+ years experience working directly with high-risk and at-risk youth
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience leading a team within a high-risk or at-risk demographic in a shelter setting and supervising staff
  • 1-2 years of experience with strategic planning
  • 1-3 years of experience training, supporting and coaching staff
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel, MS Outlook and WORD) and ETO
  • Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
  • CYCAA Child and Youth Care certification will be considered an asset

Prerequisites

  • Training in first aid, and mental health first aid
  • Non-violent crisis intervention
  • Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction
  • Trauma - Informed Care Training
  • Person Centered Planning Training
  • Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and driver's abstract
  • Proof of vehicle insurance (at least $1 million third party liability)
