We work in direct partnership with children, youth and their families, as well as with schools and social service agencies, to ensure families receive the support they need, when and where they need it.

We are hiring specialized respite workers to work with our complex needs clients in their home, community, or centre. We are currently seeking clients who could work in the Kemptville area. We are also looking for staff who can work in Ottawa, and surrounding areas. Our centre is in the West end.

Job Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):

  • Support an individual with special needs (e.g., Autism) at home or in the community
  • Engage with the individual while teaching different life skills (e.g., communication, independence, self-care)
  • Knowledge of G-tube feeding
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical protocols, such as asthma, epilepsy, and diabetes.
  • Responsible for children's personal hygiene, feeding, and providing an inclusive environment. Engaging in the daily routines in the class and working with supportive services ( families, Classroom teachers, Speech, OT, PT, etc.)
  • Shifts may include daytime/evenings/weekends.
    Experience: Supporting persons with special needs in a direct support role (e.g., ABA therapist, behaviour therapist, behaviour support worker, instructor therapist, respite worker, autism support professional, residential care provider, etc.)
  • To provide support within our Elementary Day Treatment Program as needed.
  • Support respite groups as needed.
  • To implement individualized goal-focused respite supports in collaboration with clinicians and/or managers.
  • Flexible schedule including daytime, evening and weekends based on client needs and availability.
  • Implement client-focused activities that are responsive to the needs of clients. It may be on an individual basis or within a group setting.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job (written/verbal/implied).
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate confidence, self-direction and sound judgement in the role.

Qualifications:

  • Must have or be working towards a Child & Youth Worker (CYW) diploma, Developmental Support Worker (DSW), Social Service Worker (SSW), Autism Behavioural Sciences (ABS) certificate or relevant education and/or experience
  • Minimum two years experience in children's mental health and working with families
  • A demonstrated ability to work from a strength-based, collaborative perspective with clients and families
  • Sound knowledge and/or experience in the mental health field and an ability to manage the emotional and behavioural needs of clients
  • Experience working with children with disabilities
  • Strong ability to communicate concise, accurate information in verbal and written reporting
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR
  • NVCI and ASIST certification an asset
  • Knowledge of DBT, CBT and Applied Behaviour Analysis an asset
  • Current police checks, including vulnerable screening
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Computer skills
  • Second language an asset
  • Valid driver's licence and daily use of a reliable vehicle with the ability to transport clients
