Primary Purpose of Position

Sinopec Canada is looking for a talented and experienced Senior Financial Reporting Analyst to join our Finance team. In this role, you will report to the Manager of Financial Reporting and play a crucial part in ensuring the company meets its financial reporting objectives. You will apply your expertise in accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare accurate and timely consolidated financial statements.

This position is based at our Calgary, Alberta head office with a hybrid work schedule, allowing you the flexibility to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly working papers and journal entries
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements
  • Produce annual working papers, consolidated financial statements, and related notes.
  • Create complex accounting calculations and associated entries
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account analysis
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for Joint Venture matters
  • Attend monthly JV accounting representative meetings
  • Maintain and perform key controls in the financial reporting process
  • Assist with audits by providing required financial information
  • Provide financial information as required
  • Review and posting of journal entries
  • Review and approval of invoices
  • Take part in special projects and handle ad hoc tasks as needed

Position Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), specifically within the oil and gas sector
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Power BI
  • Working experience with QByte is considered an asset
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Displays a high-level of integrity in all actions, complying with and promoting the Company's core values, a respectful work environment, and aligning with the Company's code of business conduct and ethics

Qualifications

  • Accounting degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience post designation in the oil and gas industry
  • A minimum of eight years in a financial reporting role
  • CPA accounting designation
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
