Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Machinist will be responsible performing assigned tasks safely and efficiently by regularly using various machines & hand tools.

You'll Do:

  • Be a key player in a company-wide continuous improvement effort
  • Read and interpret blueprints and perform precise machining operations based on project specifications
  • Make parts using large and small lathes, milling machines, and drill presses to exacting standards and tight tolerances by verifying dimensions using precision measuring instruments
  • Calibrate measuring instruments to ensure accuracy
  • Inspect and test completed products to ensure that they meet quality standards
  • Utilize knowledge and skills to recognize opportunities for improvements and savings
  • Work with other trades in a flexible team environment to achieve greater efficiency and productivity
  • Perform all duties in accordance with work safe practice

You have:

  • A valid journeyman or inter-provincial certification is required
  • Experience working in a pulp or paper mill or in a job machine shop using machining equipment
  • Considerable knowledge of metal properties, machining methods and shop mathematics; numerical ability to compute dimensions; tapers, cutting angles, tool settings, feed rates and machine speeds
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Commitment to working safely and creating a safe workplace
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently with little supervision
  • Flexible availability for overtime opportunities
  • The desire to learn, grow, and succeed

Compensation Package:

  • The hourly pay rate for this position will follow the collective agreement between Unifor 1115 and Cariboo Pulp & Paper Company at the current rate of 48.66/hour.
  • Outstanding benefits package including medical, dental, pension, life insurance, disability, accident insurance, vacation, and holidays.
