About the role:

As the Olive Branch Kitchen Manager, you will play a critical role in elevating our focus on fresh prepared foods. You will work closely with the Executive Chef and Mashgiach (kosher supervisor) to ensure the highest in food quality, customer satisfaction, and adherence to kosher guidelines.

What you'll do:

Kosher Compliance:

  • Ensure that all food preparation, cooking, and storage adhere strictly to kosher dietary laws
  • Work closely with our Mashgiach (kosher supervisor) to maintain compliance with kosher certification requirements

Leadership and Management:

  • Supervise, train, and manage kosher kitchen staff, including cooks, food prep staff, and other kitchen employees
  • Work with executive chef and Director of Operations, Food Service, to schedule, assign tasks, and ensure staff adherence to kosher protocols and store policies

Quality Control:

  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and taste, while strictly adhering to kosher laws
  • Regularly inspect prepared foods to ensure they meet store and kosher certification standards

Food Safety and Sanitation:

  • Enforce strict food safety protocols, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation practices, in compliance with kosher regulations
  • Ensure the kitchen meets all health department regulations.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor inventory levels of kosher ingredients, supplies, and kitchen equipment
  • Work with Directors of Operations to order and manage stock efficiently to minimize waste and ensure the kitchen is adequately stocked at all times

Cost Control:

  • Manage food costs by monitoring ingredient usage, reducing waste, and optimizing portion control
  • Work with the Director of Operations to develop and adhere to budgets

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other department managers (e.g., deli, bakery, meat) in the coordination of store events and promotions

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of all kosher kitchen equipment
  • Arrange for repairs or replacements as needed to ensure safe and efficient operations

Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of kosher inventory, food costs, sales, and staff performance
  • Report regularly to the store manager on kosher kitchen operations and any areas of concern

Problem Solving:

  • Address any issues that arise in the kosher kitchen, such as staffing challenges, equipment malfunctions, or customer complaints, in a timely and effective manner

Work Environment:

  • Kosher kitchen environment within a grocery store
  • Fast-paced setting with regular exposure to cooking equipment, sharp tools, and hot surfaces
  • May require early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts

What you'll bring:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Culinary degree or relevant certification preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a kitchen management and food preparation role, preferably in a kosher kitchen or similar environment
  • Experience with inventory management, cost control, and budgeting
  • Knowledge of kosher dietary laws, food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations is an asset

Skills:

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proficient in using kitchen equipment and technology
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Manual dexterity for handling kitchen tools and equipment
  • Ability to work in hot or cold environments (e.g., kitchens, walk-in coolers)
