About Us: Closer to Home Community Services (CTH) is Southern Alberta based non-profit organization located in Southern Alberta since 1995. CTH provides a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of children, youth and families.

About the Position: The Home Visitor is responsible for providing long term emotional and practical support for families with children aged 0-6, who self-refer to the home visitation program. This program works with families who seek resources, information and services through the Family Resource Network (FRN) and its many programs. By developing strong relationships with family members, the Home Visitor is able to help the family design relevant goals and implement and evaluate action plans. Through collaboration with community partners, the families' needs are assessed and strategies are put into place to support the healthy development of the family. The Home Visitor will provide support to the families in their homes and a variety of other settings with the goal of helping them to learn necessary skills, such as problem solving, child development, parenting skills, budgeting and conflict management. They will also facilitate any required case conferences and work with referring agencies or other services involved with the family. The Home Visitor must complete the required program reports and documentation, participate on committees and attend meetings that are relevant to their role.

About You: You possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to effectively communicate with and relate to people of all ages. You are extremely detail oriented, organized and can effectively manage multiple priorities at one time. You are able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with children and youth and their families as well as with community agencies and resources. You are a compassionate individual with a positive and empathetic approach who understands how to set appropriate professional boundaries. You have experience with individuals from a variety of cultural backgrounds, are sensitive to their cultural and spiritual needs and can incorporate these into planning for families. In addition, you are eager to learn and carry out the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.

Qualifications:

  • A Diploma or Degree in a related field and/or previous experience working with vulnerable children and families is required
  • Willing to work a flexible work week, including evenings and weekends when needed
  • A valid Alberta Driver's License, reliable vehicle for work purposes, adequate and current insurance and willing to provide a Driver's Abstract upon hire
  • First Aid/CPR Level C or higher
  • A Police Information Check and an Intervention Record Check must be completed upon hire
