General Description:

This position is a key and integral part of the Madison Group Commercial team. This position reports into the Vice President of Commercial & Hospitality. The Commercial Accountant will maintain accounting practices to ensure accurate and reliable books necessary for business operations.

This is a permanent role, 5 days a week in the office, and requires the candidate to work independently and collaboratively with the Operations and Management team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee, manage, and respond to inquiries submitted to the invoices inbox
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation and reconciliation of control accounts (accounts receivable, accounts payable, last month's rent, LMR interest) to subsidiary ledger, intercompany balances, schedules of balance sheet accounts
  • Track the invoices inbox for invoices and process payments in a timely manner (within 30 days)
  • Monthly support for tracking all commercial rental payments due, and following up with tenants each month
  • Monthly tracking of all accounts receivable, creating a monthly reporting template shared with the Vice President each month
  • Working with the Leasing Manager for the processing payments of leasing commission, tenant improvement allowances
  • Working with the Operations team to process tenant chargeback, collecting and receiving the appropriate documentation for tenant chargeback, and invoicing and collecting payment for respective chargebacks on the tenant account
  • PO Process – working closely on a monthly basis with the Director of Finance, Property Administrator, Building Operations Supervisor, and General Manager of Property Services for monthly review of all purchase orders initiated, approved/unapproved, and those needing to be manually closed through Yardi
  • Processing all accounts payable (payments) and invoices to commercial vendors on a monthly and ad hoc basis
  • Review coding of invoices to ensure accurate posting in general ledger
  • Maintain various books, records, and files


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Accounting diploma and/or degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration
  • Minimum of 2 years of Property Accounting experience
  • Working towards an accounting designation (CPA, or Finalist) an asset
  • Systems proficiency with property management and accountant software – Yardi is a must
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Ability to work individually, good judgement when assessing difficult situations
  • Self-motivated individual who is proactive, takes initiative, goal and results oriented, can work independently with minimum direction
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to multi-task/prioritize and work under tight timelines to meet multiple deadlines
  • Flexible with a “can-do, no task is too big or too small” attitude
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-up skills
