The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), Ontario is a provincial association, committed to improving services and support for individuals living with mental illnesses and addictions issues, and to the promotion of mental health in Ontario.

CMHA Ontario in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health operates Your Health Space (YHS), a program that supports health care organizations across Ontario to improve mental health in their workplaces through live workshops and self-directed modules. It embraces the holistic view that psychological health and safety in the workplace takes the collective effort of individuals across an entire health care organization. Therefore, the program is offered to Leaders, Health Care Workers, and Support Staff working in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home and community care settings. Through this program, health care workers can learn to recognize and manage symptoms of chronic workplace stress and connect with colleagues through facilitated discussions.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Officer of Programs and serving as a key member of senior management and Programs Dept management team, the Director of Your Health Space (YHS) leads the strategic direction of the YHS Program. The Director provides senior leadership in strategic planning, operational oversight, stakeholder partnerships, program growth and scalability, and team leadership.

Core Responsibilities

Program and Operational Leadership

  • Provided senior leadership, in the development, execution, and advancement of a strategic vision for the Your Health Space Program, including designing and planning the strategic positioning of the Your Health Space program within the healthcare sector, while excelling at meeting the mental health needs of the Ontario's healthcare workers and organizations.
  • Build and maintain positive and trusting stakeholder relationships with government (funders) including ongoing engagement and transparency with respect to program initiatives and implementation.
  • Proactively engages with key Ministries and the funder network, solidifying viable relationships and establishes partnerships both internally and externally with all applicable Program partners, while promoting and growing brand recognition of the program, that is capable of driving public support of the Program.
  • Primary lead in managing the core relationship with the Ministry of Health, provincial partners, and critical stakeholders. Provides high-level consulting on key issues and opportunities, while also supporting regular reporting and the development of funding submissions
  • Build and foster viable relationships across the CMHA branch network to raise awareness and inclusivity with respect to the program.
  • Develop and design strategic priorities and possibilities for the growth and improvement of the YHS Program, including working with communications on creative methods to raise awareness through branding and marketing of the program.
  • Lead, determine and sets final annual project plans for delivery of the YHS Program for the fiscal year based on allocated funding.
  • Provides leadership and guidance in the oversight and development of the curriculum for YHS, including the expansion and potential for specialized curriculum over time.
  • Work with experts and key stakeholders on the development of a brand for YHS.
  • Monitor program success and data, including evaluation strategy for the Programs, including working with senior manager and leadership to monitor evaluation results and ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Overall final financial reporting and monitoring for all YHS programs and budgets responsibility, including submitting regular activity updates to the Chief of Programs, and quarterly/annual plans and reports.
  • Participates in internal meetings, including training opportunities, as part of the CMHA Ontario team

People and Team Leadership

  • Provides ongoing directional people leadership to YHS management and employees: including the supervision, coaching, performance management and collaborate with employees for their success, ongoing professional development, and growth.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment, selection, and talent management of employees, helping to manage vacancies and new positions.
  • Provide support to bring newly hired staff together to work as a team. This includes supporting, facilitating, and enhancing innovative practices in program delivery.
  • Take a leadership role across CMHA Ontario as it relates to the Programs Dept management team, senior management team, Executive Leadership Network, and branch relationships.

Skill Based Competencies

  • Strategic Leadership able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse and multiple stakeholders, translate the vision, mission and goals and inspire/mobilize others to deliver. Demonstrated experience effectively managing large, complex implementation of programs with multi-stakeholder engagement.
  • People, Program and Operational Leadership - Proven ability to lead and manage employees, collaborate with an executive stakeholders, manage budgets, program and system planning, and problem solving and innovation
  • Analytical Skills – can effectively gather, synthesize, assess, and respond to issues and use analysis and creative thinking to find multiple solutions and drive continuous quality improvement efforts

  • Education & Experience - Master's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent education and experience. Strong understanding of workplace mental health, psychological health and safety, and Mental Health and Addiction, from both a political and system-level lens. Fluency in French is an asset.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, regular (permanent) non-bargaining management position working standard office hours (currently 35 hours/week). The position is based in Toronto, Ontario (180 Dundas Street West, Suite 2301). We operate within a hybrid model, with colleagues working from the office 3 days/week and from home 2 days/week. Travel may be required, possibly requiring overnight stays.

This position is also a desk job with extended periods of sitting, reading, telephone interaction, and working at the computer. This position involves some moderate lifting, shipping, and handling. Attendance at various meetings throughout the workday/workweek will be required; meetings may occur on short notice, depending on the circumstances.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be required to maintain and submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination.
