The Pickering project site is looking for an organized, results-oriented and experienced Project Superintendent to join our Project Team.

Summary of the Role:

The role of the Project Superintendent is to provide leadership and direction for the successful execution of construction projects. While providing support for all project team members the Project Superintendent is accountable for overall project schedule, its development, and execution adherence. The Project Superintendent provides direction for day-to-day activities including the profitable execution of all field construction and fabrication projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of field construction and fabrication activities on the job site, including the effective utilization of material and labour
  • Promotes Health and Safety on the site and ensures all work is conducted in a safe fashion in accordance with legislated requirements and company policy
  • Ensures Company safety standards and government regulations are adhered to by all construction personnel throughout execution
  • Manages all phases of construction projects including scope of work, labour hours, material and equipment expenditures to ensure work is completed within the client's requirements, per schedule and budget
  • Ensures construction scope is phased and scheduled using the established Company Phasing and Scheduling systems
  • Coordinates and supervises all divisional functions in accordance with established Company Policy and Procedures
  • Conducts daily, as required meetings with the construction crews and supporting departments, including Quality Assurance Inspectors, Modification Team Leaders, Document Control, etc.
  • Develops and maintains strong and positive relationships with the client
  • Works closely with the Purchasing Department providing input, required dates, coordination, and information in accordance with the Company's established purchasing procedures
  • Works closely with the Purchasing Department, providing required dates, official tool and equipment requisitions, and coordination with respect to the requisitioning and return of tools and equipment
  • Monitors and supervises the construction execution using all available reporting systems and stays current on their progress status
  • Maintains full and complete communication with Project Team staff and resources to ensure that information is effectively communicated on a timely basis with regards to construction issues and requirements
  • Promotes cooperation as well as effectively plans and utilizes all resources for successful project execution
  • Demonstrates ownership of construction planning and readiness
  • Acts as a single point of contact for all trade disciplines within their assigned project(s)
  • Ensures responsibilities and accountabilities are conducted in a safe manner in accordance with E.S. Fox Limited safety policy/procedures, ISO 18001 standards and OHSA requirements
  • Ensures that environmental aspects within their sphere of responsibility are adhered to pursuant to ISO 14001 requirements
  • Collaborates with the appropriate team members to ensure adequate project resourcing
  • Performs such other activities and responsibilities as may be, from time to time, deemed necessary by the Senior Management team
  • Performs sub-contractor management as required
  • Maintain profitability of construction activities
  • Maintain excellent construction safety record
  • Maintain the required level of skill and competence with the construction activities
  • Identify, recommend training needs, and develop staff
  • Establishes and maintains high performance standards for employees

Key Requirements, Experience, and Skills:

  • Experience as a General Foreperson, Superintendent and/or:
  • Recognized skilled trade certificate of qualification (compulsory or voluntary)
  • 15 - 20 years of direct construction/maintenance industry experience including estimating and scheduling, with at least 10 years' experience as a General Foreperson
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage a construction crew(s) of significant scope and complexity
  • Must have strong technical, managerial, inter-personal, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organizational computer programs (MS Word, Excel)
  • Possess solid negotiating and conflict resolution skills
