ABOUT WILLIAMS LAKE FIRST NATION (WLFN)

The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T'exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, The Coordinator of Marketing and Communications will support the Manager of Marketing and Communications in developing and delivering compelling content that promotes community events, programs, and initiatives. This role is hands-on and focused on creating and distributing high-quality materials across multiple channels, including social media, websites, email campaigns, and community outreach. Working closely with staff across all departments, the Coordinator will help develop targeted campaigns that meet the communication needs of various programs and services within the organization. This position ensures that messaging reaches its intended audience in an engaging and timely manner, supporting a cohesive organizational voice.

Employment Type

Full-time term (35 hours per week) ends March 31, 2025.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire

Education Required

Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, Political Science, or Marketing.

A combination of relevant professional or personal experience that enables you to dynamically tell WLFN's story.

Visual arts, communications, journalism, graphic design, or videography diploma/certification.

Experience Required

Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in communications, journalism/media, public relations, or a related field.

Hands – on experience with Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress).

Proficiency in photography, videography, photo/video editing, audio recording, graphic design an asset.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Content Creation: Design and develop marketing materials, such as posters, press releases, event pages, and newsletters.
  2. Social Media Management: Create and schedule posts, manage community engagement, and grow the organization's presence on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
  3. Website Management: Maintain and update the organization's WordPress site with fresh content, including event pages, news articles, and important announcements.
  4. Email Campaigns: Draft, schedule, and send regular email campaigns to keep the community informed and engaged.
  5. Community Outreach: Create and deliver (or arrange for delivery of) flyers, posters, and other promotional materials to homes and businesses in the community when necessary.
  6. Department Collaboration: Partner with staff across departments to understand their communication needs and develop effective campaigns that highlight key programs, initiatives, and services.
  7. Feedback and Monitoring: Collect community feedback and track the reach and effectiveness of content and campaigns, reporting findings to the Manager for further analysis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge

  • Experience utilizing and developing a wide range of communications tools, including social media, press releases, newsletters, and print media will be required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat.
  • Knowledge and personal interest in videography, graphic design, or creative media.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software at an intermediate/advanced level.
  • Proficiency in report writing, budget management, time management, defining goals and objectives, and setting priorities.
  • Experience with effective advertising and promotional techniques.
  • Basic HTML and/or CSS an asset.

Skills & Abilities

  • Self-starter with excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and customer service skills with the demonstrated ability to exercise tact, leadership, good judgment, and diplomacy.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with different types of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong graphic design experience.
  • Must be able to adhere to specific branding standards in the creation of digital assets.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and grammatical knowledge with the ability to effectively advise others and support their writing efforts.
  • Expertise in social media and web communications (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc).
  • Must be creative, passionate about creating stories or messages through film and video.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, identify priorities, be creative and maintain a detailed work plan.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Operates as part of a team and is flexible about the boundaries and functions of the job.
  • Maintains professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Recognizes and respects all cultural diversity and understands the Indigenous culture.
  • Awareness of Secwépemc culture and/or language an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment.
  • Most services are provided immediately.
  • The workload of this position is unpredictable and requires excellent time management.
  • This position must deal with highly sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Due to the nature of communications, there is an occasional need to work a varied schedule or to be on-call or on stand-by outside of typical working hours. As such, the ability to work a flexible schedule is a requirement of this position.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver's License and Driver's Abstract
  • Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver's License.
