Position Summary:

The Human Resource (HR) Manager is responsible for overseeing Milestone's full cycle HR processes, such as recruitment, onboarding, training, employee engagement, professional development, retention, and departures. They are a trusted strategic partner who takes a proactive approach to align talent strategies with business and organizational objectives.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced HR professional to build and foster progressive HR practices, as well as impact organizational culture and people initiatives

Responsibilities:

General HR

  • Develop, update, and implement company policies.
  • Oversee the orientation and onboarding of new employees
  • Manage the HRIS (Human Resource Information System) and ensure its functions are meeting the business needs.
  • Be the primary point of contact for all HR queries.
  • Maintain and update confidential employee records and information with high degree of confidentiality.
  • Maintain and update office directory and org chart to reflect current employees and roles.
  • Support senior management team on meeting their corporate deliverables.

Employee Relations

  • Support Managers with performance evaluation process, conduct exit interviews as requested.
  • Partner with Managers on escalations to ensure effective conflict resolution.
  • Facilitate disciplinary actions when required including discharge if warranted
  • Provide guidance, advice and support to managers on all human resources related matters including retention and recruitment; performance management; employee engagement; training & development; compensation; employee development; harassment issues; creating a respectful workplace; policies and procedures; and applicable government legislation.

Recruitment

  • Oversee talent acquisition and full cycle recruitment. Ensure the HR team is proving support to hiring managers by assisting with job descriptions, posting on multiple platforms, candidate sourcing, applicant tracking, conducting pre-screens and interviews, and assisting in candidate selection.
  • Ensure fair and unbiased candidate selection process.
  • Assist hiring manager with employment offer negotiations. Ensure fair compensation is being offered and within the internal compensation range.
  • Prepare and send job offers to successful candidates
  • Develop and maintain a “talent pipeline” of candidates who may be a fit in the future.

Benefits and Payroll

  • Administer enrollments and changes to benefits plans. Ensure the policy adheres with CRA requirements and taxable benefits. Conduct ongoing market research.
  • Responsible for running payroll for the entire company, including weekly union payroll and biweekly non-union payroll. Keep up to date with provincial legislations and taxable benefit laws. Perform year end close out and employee T4's.

HR Team Management

  • Lead the team of HR Administrators and Coordinators.
  • Conduct regular one to one check ins with team members.
  • Conduct thorough and thoughtful annual reviews.
  • Ensure proper training and mentorship for current and new team members.
  • Monitor performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
  • Manage time off requests ensuring adequate coverage.
  • Leads team through effective performance management to include activities that ensure goals are consistently being met or exceeded. Support team in their professional development and provide growth opportunities through SMART goals.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

  • CPHR Designation is required.

Experience Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in an HR Manager or Generalist role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Strong sense of ethics.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Strong conflict management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Proficient in HRIS (BambooHR or similar system).
  • Proficient in full-cycle payroll (PayWorks or similar system).
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment strategies, sourcing techniques, and selection methods.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant Canadian employment laws and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team in person, remotely, and independently.
  • Strong ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

Work Environment

  • Work is in an office environment.
  • This is a national role, travel to the other regions will be required annually.
