CASUAL - HEALTH AND WELLNESS INSTRUCTOR Position Type: Casual (Temporary Full Time)

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day on a varied schedule.
Work Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre
Hourly Rate: $23.59 per hour
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
As a member of the Community Services Department, this position will assist in the organization, administration, monitoring, leading and instructing of various Health & Wellness Programs. They will provide quality customer service, ensure rules are followed, and keep program areas well maintained and cleaned under the guidance of the Recreation Program Supervisory Staff.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Be responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants and for ensuring rules and regulation as set out by the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department and/or outside organizations are followed.
  • Represent the City professionally by following the Staff Policies and Procedures as set out by the Department.
  • Be responsible for maintaining personal fitness levels to be able to monitor, lead, or instruct in designated programs and in any other areas and/or programs, as needed, and to assist with shift changes and coverages within the Health & Wellness areas.
  • Be responsible for observing, evaluating, and providing feedback to the supervisory staff on Recreation Programs.
  • Be responsible for giving tours to members of the public and answering general questions regarding Recreation programs, services, or facilities.
  • Be responsible for resolving problems and/or conflicts with patrons.
  • Be responsible for the general cleanliness of the Recreation Program areas and for reporting any maintenance concerns to the Recreation Program Supervisor or designate.
  • Be responsible for the completion of attendance sheets, and any other administrative tasks assigned such as statistics, reports, or any other required paperwork to effectively administrate programs as per Department Procedures.
  • Assume the responsibility for assessing, responding, providing first aid, and assist other staff, as needed, in an emergency and completing the necessary reports.
  • Attend all staff trainings and meetings as scheduled.

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:
  • Completed College Diploma in Fitness & Health Promotion (or equivalent)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C'
  • Certified Group Fitness Instructor, additional fitness certifications are an asset (TRX, Yoga, etc.)
  • Certified Personal Trainer
  • Skill and efficiency in the use of computers including Word, Excel, and Power Point programs and “CLASS” experience is an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the fitness industry.
  • Experience in leading Personal Training and Group Fitness sessions.
  • Experience instructing/coaching sports programs to various ages.
  • Municipal Recreation experience is an asset.
