Mandate:

The Vice President of Freight Operations is responsible for leading the freight division and overseeing air and ocean freight activities. This role involves strategic planning and team management. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in driving growth, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing both profitability and service quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of freight operations professionals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with shipping lines, carriers, and other key stakeholders to ensure reliable and cost-effective service.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs, provide customized solutions, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations and manage risks associated with freight operations.
  • Monitor and manage the budget for the freight division, overseeing profit and loss and maintaining cost control.
  • Continuously monitor, evaluate and improve operational productivity.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics to identify opportunities and adjust approaches as needed.
  • Create and execute plans to improve client retention and expand client accounts.
  • Integrate sustainable practices into the air and ocean freight operations.
  • Drive efforts to implement innovative solutions that improve operational capabilities and expand service offerings.
  • Provide regular reports on operational performance, key metrics, and strategic initiatives to senior management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in ocean and/or air freight operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a 3PL or similar environment
  • Previous experience in staff management
  • Strong knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in logistics management software and tools, including the CargoWise One system
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • CIFFA designation is considered an asset
  • IMO-IMDG / IATA dangerous goods certification is considered an asset
  • Pharmaceutical & Project cargo experience is considered an Asset
