Activate is a technology company known for creating Canada's first full-scale interactive gaming experience. We are looking to expand our Software team with the addition of a Director, Software. The critical responsibilities include oversight and direction for the various development teams through instrumental decision making in game development to enhance Activate's growth. The Director, Software plays a vital role in prioritization, sprint structure and efficient execution of software design and development to meet business requirements.
The Responsibilities:
Software Development
- Lead software development projects through agile leadership methods to prioritize customer excellence during gameplay and adhere to development standards
- Lead software development, prioritization and implementation processes that apply to a global environment with international complexity
- Lead software release plans and set expectations for delivery of new features and functionalities
- Manage, plan, and coordinate activities of the development team to ensure the sprint progresses on schedule
- Plan and prioritize the backlog and development of the software, meeting the needs of the business
- Confers with the software team to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
- Work closely with different departments to improve software development standards and processes
- Keep the VP, Product Development informed on delivery status and keep a healthy roadmap for the software team
- Mitigate challenges impacting completion of release/sprint goals
- Provide feedback on works-in-progress and accept or reject final projects
People Leadership
- Hire and organize training for all departments within the Software team to maximize performance
- Structure team efficiencies for performance excellence into an international portfolio
- Develop measurable KPI's for the development teams, through accountable leadership
- Coach leaders in conducting checkpoints and performance assessments, as well as creating development plans for direct reports
The Qualifications:
- 7+ years w/Sr. Leadership
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
- Strong understanding of an assortment of technologies, including MySQL, VueJS, Docker, and microservices architectures
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or computer engineering, or Certificate/Diploma in Software Development
- Seasoned in various methodology and tools, including agile leadership
- Experience designing and maintaining network architecture
- Experience developing Android and/or iOS apps
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services (SES, S3, Aurora etc.)
