POSITION: APPLIANCE PROCESSING AND DISASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN

DEPARTMENT: Processing

FLSA CLASS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: General Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

As a Route Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating a straight truck, maintaining professionalism at all times, and completing the route in a timely manner. One of your highest priorities will be to treat customers and their property with ultimate respect, consideration, and care by working in a safe manner and by leaving the work area at the customer's location clean.

The Route Driver's responsible to perform any and all work assignments relating to the removal of major household appliances (refrigerators, freezers) at customer homes. Equally as important is the responsibility of their Helper, their safety, safe driving, and handling of appliances and company equipment. This is a physical demanding job.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Completing daily vehicle pre-trip inspection reports and reporting all unsafe conditions to the supervisor
  • Completing required paperwork as well as cleaning the truck bed and cab on a daily basis
  • Reporting all damage to trucks, property or customer home immediately
  • Assuming responsibility for company-issued tools and equipment
  • Protecting the company's assets from internal/external theft
  • Participating in company-sponsored training programs

Route Driver requirements:

  • High school diploma
  • 1+ years of recent work experience driving a straight truck a must
  • Clean and insurable driving record
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial and local transportation laws, regulations and requirements
  • Previous delivery experience, preferably related to moving household appliances or furniture a plus
  • Aptitude to remain calm, pleasant and professional while under strenuous physical requirements, strict time schedules and changing priorities
  • Clean abstract and police check
  • Basic Computer knowledge and skills to use hand held PDA and/or GPS
  • Ability to perform strenuous work under varied circumstances

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to grip, lift, stoop, bend, squat and turn on a consistent, repetitive basis.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 18 kg on a repetitive basis and up to 34 kg on an occasional basis without assistance.
  • Physically able to perform strenuous work under varied circumstances.
