Job Summary

The Industrial Electrician will focus on conducting preventive maintenance, production maintenance, maintaining quality and troubleshooting in the maintenance department. Emphasis will be put on ensuring machines and equipment are well maintained to facilitate production requirement and machine manufacturer's specifications, while following production, health and safety practices.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot injection mold machines, hot oil units, thermolators, dryers, mixers, material grinders, overhead cranes, hydraulic systems, electrical controls, lightings reamers, Cranfield production machineries, drill press, bag sealer, pedestal grinders, quality control lab testing equipment, and electrical power supply on the facility
  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, install and repair as necessary electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, piping, feeders, cable assemblies, light fixtures, and other electrical components where possible
  • Test, troubleshoot, maintain, install, and repair industrial electrical and electronic control systems, electronic equipment, electronic components, and electrical and electronic devices
  • Refurbish PLC cards, continuity check on heater bands, solid state relay, motors and electrical components as described on preventive maintenance inspection checklist
  • Train and learn on machine maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulics, pneumatics, servo drives, PLC and electrical systems
  • Maintain machinery and processes competently, safely and in the most efficient way
  • Find and fix root cause of injection mold machine issues when machines stop working
  • Replace and clean water, oil, and air filters where required. Change lubricating oils, maintain lubricating oil levels, grease equipment, clean and inspect for leaks or damage, replace factory lights and other tasks assigned by Maintenance Supervisor
  • Fabrication and modification of machines or related equipment such as, but not limited to, conveyors, drill presses and guards
  • Maintain, repair, and test switches, switchboard meters, regulators, electrical motors, generators, industrial storage batteries, and hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems
  • Plan and layout work assignments from blueprints, sketches, drawings, or verbal instruction
  • Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand tools, power tools and welding equipment
  • Inspect screw OD and Barrel ID for wear and tear. Replace hydraulic oil, reseal cylinders found leaking during pre-inspection
  • Improve efficiency in providing preventive maintenance of injection molding machines and other equipment and contribute to plant cost reduction effort and reduce downtime

Requirements

  • Canadian certification as an Electrician is required (442A or Red Seal is preferred)
  • Dual-ticket certification as an Industrial Electrician and Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) is strongly preferred
  • 4 or more years of experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience repairing most manufacturing equipment with mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and controls
  • Experience working with injection molding machines or equipment is an asset
  • Flexible to work a 12-hour continental shift schedule
  • Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete IPEX forklift, scissor lift and crane training license/certification and Routsis training

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends almost 100% of time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labour. The majority of the work will cover lifting, pulling, pushing heavy objects (20-50 lbs.), standing and walking. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades and presses. Moderate amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and predictable workflow, bring moderate amount of stresses to this position. May be exposed to hazardous material, chemical and/or high voltage electricity, heights more than 15 feet and all external weather and environment.
