Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are undertaking the design, build, and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations, and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

As Ontario Transit Group, we are now mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario's economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River).
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station.
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations.
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown).

Job Description

Reporting to the Utilities Construction Manager and/or Dry Utilities Lead, the Dry Utilities Superintendent will be responsible for assisting with the coordination and management of the work on site to ensure the compliance of construction with the relocation drawings, specification, the Project Agreement and Health & Safety Requirement.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage dry utility works as required
  • Supervise and coordinate field engineering and construction activities.
  • Provide technical review and assistance in the coordination of temporary or permanent relocations/installations of utilities including but not limited to: hydro (transmission and distribution), communication, and gas
  • Assists in the technical review of project designs with respect to utility related issues to ensure compliance with Utility Asset Owner and/or Utility Authority design criteria and applicable specifications and standards.
  • Perform conflict analysis of Utilities with construction staging and permanent configuration.
  • Participate in negotiations with Utility Owners for relocating/installing utilities affected/required by the project;
  • Have an understanding of Utility Owners relocation process, from obtaining approval of the design to close out.
  • Participate/Lead meetings with internal and external design teams
  • Participate in the development of contractual strategies to facilitate utility relocations and/or the integration of utility work into construction contracts.
  • Assists in the analytical review and evaluation of the costs/risks and decision to relocate or support/protect utilities
  • Advises project staff of what issues require resolution within the construction contracts to ensure full coordination and compliance with standing agreements and/or standards with Utility Asset Owners.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan and to manage subcontractor activities
  • Prepare detailed quantity take offs , cost estimates and schedule forecasts.
  • Attend meetings as required with Clients, Municipal Agencies and other Consultants.
  • Take the lead on productivity issues and monitor work performance
  • Tracking and collection of documentation for extra work, submittals, and backups for billing purposes.
  • Tracking and documenting project schedule activity, start, finish, % complete and major milestones.
  • Understanding of all necessary permits, approvals and notices, as might be necessary, to successfully implement the Construction Work plan;
  • Oversee SUE investigations and Condition Survey tasks
  • Performs other related administrative or project-based duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Health and Safety Act
  • Must be available for ocaasianla nightsa and weekends.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Municipal Engineering, or similar field
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience within the civil infrastructure industry.
  • Computer proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Sound knowledge of construction techniques, practices, and fundamentals.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Drivers licence.
