Our client, a leading residential developer in Toronto, is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Project Accountant to join their dynamic team. Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Accounting: Manage all aspects of project accounting, including budgeting, cost control, and financial reporting for multiple residential development projects.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including project cost summaries, variance analyses, and cash flow forecasts. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Budget Management: Develop and maintain project budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure that all costs are captured and allocated correctly. Work closely with project managers to track project progress and identify potential cost overruns.
  • Month-End Closing: Perform month-end closing activities for projects, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
  • Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of long-term forecasts and financial models to support strategic decision-making and project planning.
  • Audit Support: Coordinate with external auditors during project audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
  • Internal Controls: Ensure strong internal controls are maintained within the project accounting function. Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project management, finance, and procurement, to ensure the financial success of each project.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in project accounting within the real estate development or construction industry.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, JD Edwards) and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with project management software is an asset.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of project accounting principles, budgeting, and financial analysis. Knowledge of the residential development industry in the GTA is highly desirable.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, with a proactive approach to collaboration and problem-solving
