Title: Human Resources Associate

Position Overview:
The Human Resources Associate will serve as part of the broader People and Culture team, comprised of the Volunteer Engagement Manager, the Database and Executive Administrator and the Executive Pastor. This position would be primarily responsible for the administration of the human resources function for the church, and first line engagement in employee relations. As a team, we are responsible for setting standards and facilitating alignment for staff, congregants and volunteers.
Main responsibilities
Employee engagement and wellness administration
• Track employee vacation i.e. ensure appropriate vacation policies are employed and managers apprised quarterly of vacation status of staff. We encourage all staff to adhere to a healthy schedule of sabbath rest daily, weekly, monthly and annually
• Maintain BambooHR system, and review of updates and products to make sure we are optimizing our use of this platform for staff engagement and for efficiency
• Administer quarterly staff engagement surveys and recommend actions based on trends
• Co-lead Health and Safety Committee
• Support Finance team re: benefits administration, including answering first line questions of staff
• Support Finance team re: payroll questions
• Administer employee recognition gifts
Recruiting
• Draft job postings for approval
• Manage all job posting
• Oversee administrative tasks for all summer interns
• Conduct initial telephone screening & recommend whether to move candidates forward
• Prepare materials for interviews, including selection of and finalizing questions with the hiring manager
• Conduct reference checks for employment candidates based on templated questions
• Prepare templated offer letters for executive signature
• Lead on-boarding for new employees, assigning on-boarding tasks to relevant staff, and conducting initial training and on-boarding from an HR perspective
Employee Relations
• Recommend updating/creation/training of staff policies as necessary
• Provide first line response to staff on employee relations questions and triage to appropriate team member if necessary
• Source training for management and staff on employee relations issues
• Participate in teams to support staff engagement activities (e.g. special events)
• Conduct off-boarding administration
• Provide documentation support for investigations
General
• Support and backstop People and Culture team-mates, collaborating to build a resilient team
• Join the GTA Christian HR network to stay current on key issues
• Stay current on employee/employer legislation
• Stay current on best practices in employee engagement
• Other duties as assigned

• Human Resources training. Experience of 1-3 years minimum

Working Conditions:
• Part-time – maximum 28 hours/week.
• On site required.
• Vulnerable Sector clearance required

• CHRP designation an asset
